A Paralympic swimmer is criticising Heathrow airport, after his wheelchair was “destroyed” on the way to Tokyo

23-year-old Patrick Flanagan from Ireland says the staff were “very apologetic”, but he was given “an oversized airport wheelchair”, a claim form, and “sent on his way”.

Patrick says “my chair is my independence” and the substitute is “degrading”.

A Heathrow spokesperson says they’re “sorry” and are working with the airline and origin airport.

They’ll also be in touch with Patrick regarding his return trip.
