Electric vehicles are to be used by Kingston Council, which cost less a third to run than the current fleet.

.The authority has bought 13 electric vans, which it hopes will save them £46,000 and 25 tonnes of carbon emissions over the next three years.

The diesel vans it’s been using have reached the end of their contract.

Councillor Stephanie Archer says they want to “lead the way” with “sustainable and environmentally friendly transport”.
