The MP for Putney has joined calls for an end to a controversial scheme to fight tax avoidance.

The loan charge aims to crack down on people who send their money to offshore accounts, then have it loaned to them in a way that’s not expected to be paid back.

However, Labour’s Fleur Anderson says “most people” facing the charge are “victims of mis-selling”, and were told the schemes were fully compliant.

HMRC says they must uphold the “fundamental principle” that individuals are responsible for their own tax affairs.
