More than 5,000 families in Wimbledon are said to lose over £1,000, if the government ends the uplift to Universal Credit.

Paul Kohler, the area’s Lib Dem Spokesperson, says it’s “the difference between being able to feed your children and seeing them go hungry”.

The benefit was increased by £20 a week during lockdown, and is due to end on October 6th.

The government says it was only ever meant to be temporary during the worst part of the pandemic.
