More than 1,500 people have signed the online document calling for the 1980s centre to be upgraded rather than demolished and rebuilt.
The centre was closed in 2019 after issues with the roof were discovered.
The council says it would cost £5 million to repair the roof and the money would be better off spent on a whole new leisure centre.
At
a cost of £40 million, Council leader Caroline Kerr says this is an investment
for the borough’s future.
She tells Lucy Mayer why it's right to press ahead with plans now.
