The victim has been formally identified as 42-year -old Gary Hopkins.
Anyone on the Byfleet Road where it crosses the River Wey near White Hart Pub between 6.30 and 8.30pm is asked to get in touch.
Information from walkers in vicinity of Basingstoke Canal in New Haw to Millpond open space and Riverside Park is also being sought.
