The southbound stretch between Kingston Vale and the Coombe Lane Flyover was shut following heavy rain overnight.
But some questioned why it was still closed well into the evening rush hour after the flooding had subsided.
A TfL spokesman says they worked hard with borough councils to clear excess water and open roads as quickly as possible.
