Volunteers in Surbiton have set up a display of thousands of poppies.

Volunteers in Surbiton have set up a display of thousands of poppies this afternoon.

They’re stretching along Hollyfield Road to mark the centenary of the Royal British legion.

The bright red flowers, originally symbols of sacrifice from the First World War, have been croched by relatives of youngsters from the legion’s marching band.

The group are hoping the display will help  encourage donations to the annual poppy appeal.
