A dog is “recovering at home” after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

It was confirmed at a laboratory in Weybridge.

It’s believed that the dog contracted the disease from its owner

The government says “there is no strong evidence” that pets can directly transmit the virus to humans.

Animal fur can act as a carrier like other surfaces for short periods of time and washing hands is important after animal contact

There have been a “very small number” of confirmed cases in pets, and they usually only show mild signs.
