A man from Ashford who tried the “very eighties trick” of sucking a 2p coin to lower a breathalyser reading has been found guilty of drunk driving

31-year-old Apdilahi Suudi was stopped in Mid-November, since the front of his car was heavily damaged.

He’s been disqualified for 17 months, made to attend a rehab course, and fined.

Breathalysers use light to measure the amount of alcohol in breath, rather than test saliva, meaning the 2p coin method won’t fool them.
