It's understood Heathrow based British Airways owner I-A-G is ending its takeover of Air Europa - because of regulators concerns about significantly reducing competition.

The 420 million-pound deal was designed to help the group's Madrid hub compete more effectively against its European rivals.

The firm's chief executive says it's now assessing whether there are alternative options for a possible tie-up.
