Merton Council is seeking to cancel its gas contract with Russian energy supplier Gazprom in response to the war in Ukraine.

A new £1 million contract was awarded to Gazprom on the 1st of April after they were the only company to bid for a new contract.

The Russian oil giant has been supplying Merton’s buildings which include leisure centres, libraries and some schools for eight years.

The council is now in talks with other energy suppliers.
