The RSPCA is trying to trace the owners of two puppies which may have been abandoned for up to 24 hours locked in a car in Caterham

The animals were rescued after passers-by raised the alarm.

They were brought to safety through a partially-opened window and treated by local vets before being taken to the Millbrook Animal Shelter.

The charity says it was contacted by someone claiming to be the owners of the dogs but they never turned up to collect them.

They say the event, on June 19th, highlights the dangers of leaving animals in cars in warm weather.
