The black man carrying a white counter-protester to safety in a photo from yesterday’s protests is a personal trainer from Wimbledon.

The photo of Patrick Hutchinson with the injured man draped over his shoulder as he emerges from a crowd has been shared widely on social media.

According to his LinkedIn page, he also works as a sprint coach at Hercules Wimbledon Athletics Club.

It’s understood Patrick and others protected the man from being attacked as he lay injured on the ground near Waterloo station.

Patrick later posted photos on his Instagram saying ‘we saved a life today’.
