A vase that had spent its life languishing on a landing at a house in Richmond has sold for thousands at auction.

It is thought to be a piece of work by 19th century French potter Theodore Deck, probably for exhibition because of its vast size.

He was influenced by Chinese and Islamic designs characterised by turquoise glazes.

It was estimated to fetch up to £1,000 but the hammer finally fell at £13,000.
