It’s been revealed the number of people employed by Surrey Fire and Rescue has shrunk by almost a third in the past decade.

The fire Brigades Union says just 300 people now work for the service, down from 558.

The trades union, which is based in Norbiton, is blaming pay cuts and what it calls “enforced” shift changes for the resignation of 35 firefighters since April last year.

1300 people have signed a petition which calls on Surrey County Council to scrap the changes.
