Competitors in a major bicycle race could be pedalling through Surrey for the last time next year.

The County Council plans to withdraw its support for the 'RideLondon 100-mile sportive' in order to focus on "smaller, community-led" cycling events.

The closed-road race usually starts at the Olympic Park, crosses nine London boroughs and parts of Surrey before eventually finishing on the Mall.

Surrey County Council's cabinet for communities meets tomorrow with officers recommending they pull out of backing the event from 2022, despite it not costing them anything.
