A recently retired council officer who worked to improve the lives of unpaid carers in Surrey has been given an OBE.

John Bangs left the council in September after 26 years.

He was noted for listening to the views of carers and putting their voices at the heart of services, and supporting young carers.

He says he’s “pleased and flattered” and he’s “confident” his successors will take his work forward.
