Investing in Surrey's safety

Surrey Air Ambulance Service has become the first HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) service charity in the UK to be awarded the ‘Investing in Volunteers’ standard.

The scheme requires organisations to meet ten indicators of good practice covering all aspects of volunteer management.

As a result of working towards the standard, the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance Service has implemented a number of new procedures including improvements to their volunteer recruitment procedure. The services’ regular volunteers attend events, give talks, they also maintain and empty collection boxes for the charity.

Wandsworth fares well in "postcode lottery" for IVF treatment
The Tories are warning of a postcode lottery for fertility treatment on the NHS.

A survey's found eight out of ten primary care trusts are flouting Government guidelines on fertility treatment.

They recommend women should receive three free cycles of IVF.

But some PCTs are refusing to offer any, while others are ignoring advice on how old women have to be to qualify.

A league table’s been published to clarify the standards across the country.

In SW London - Wandsworth scored the highest – coming 27th nationally.

This was following shortly by Sutton & Merton, as well as Surrey.

Hounslow came 55th, followed by Croydon - then Kingston in 77th.

Hammersmith & Fulham and Lambeth scored poorly – achieving only 99th place out of a possible 120.
