A former Surrey police officer who began his career in Addlestone is among those honoured with the British Empire Medal

A former Surrey police officer who began his career in Addlestone is among those honoured with the British Empire Medal.

It’s in recognition of Tom Kimnell’s 18 year career as a police constable who specialised in safeguarding vulnerable children and young adults.

Surrey chief constable Gavin Stephens said the award was truly deserved.

Wandsworth Council is urging everyone to recycle their Christmas left overs correctly.

They want residents to recycle as much as possible, including food, gift wrapping and even  Christmas trees.

Christmas trees will be collected free of charge between January the 4th and January the 14th.

The councils are reminding residents not to leave their trees out on the pavement before the specified dates to avoid receiving a fine.

A post-mortem has confirmed that a fifteen year old boy who was found injured and bleeding in a Croydon park, died from a stab-wound to the heart.

The victim has been named as Zaian Aimable-Lina who was from the local area.

Zaian was attacked in Ashburton Park on Thursday evening. Officers who found him at around 7;30pm provided first aid but were unable to save his life.

Yesterday a fifteen-year old youth was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a South London police station.

He was later released on bail. Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses.

Several landmarks in Tooting are being given a new lease of life

A project initiated by Wandsworth Council will see the gas lamps in Tooting Broadway refurbished.

The historic Grade 11 listed lamps are being renovated to bring them back to their original state.

They have stood on the Broadway since the early 19th Century.

Hounslow council is celebrating the success of Cycleway 9 in Chiswick

Data released by the council shows cycle numbers up 72%, with bikes now 20% of all vehicles.

Collisions have been cut in half and there’s been Improved air quality, with lower levels of NO2 and PMs.

 A tweet from the council says: “we're getting greener, cleaner & healthier.”

Brentford have signed Denmark international goalkeeper Jonas Lossl on loan until the end of the season

The 32-year-old joins from Midtjylland with an option to make the move permanent.

Lossl has previously played for Huddersfield and spent two years at Everton without making an appearance.

Meanwhile the Bees Premier League match against Southampton has been re-arranged for Tuesday the 11th of January at 7.45pm.

It was initially supposed to take place on December 18 at St Mary’s but was postponed due to coronavirus.

More than three-quarters of adults eligible for a coronavirus booster jab in England have now had it

That's around 28-million people. 

 The NHS says there are still more than one-and-a-half million appointments available for next week, as the campaign to give everyone their third vaccines continues. 

 Wandsworth Council Leader Ravi Govindia is urging people to take up the offers.

A care home in Richmond has launched a fundraising project to raise money to install a sensory garden for residents.

The Move for Care initiative by Central and Ceil Housing Trust is inviting people to partake in two separate challenges to raise money.

The aim is to reach £25,000 so they can install a sensory garden in every one of their care homes across Richmond and Camden. 

As well as the fundraising event, Central and Ceil Housing Trust is celebrating it’s 95th anniversary.

Police have released CCTV footage on a man they’d like to speak to in connection with an attempted burglary in Addlestone.

 





The incident happened on at round 11:30 in the evening of Christmas Eve.

A drug dealer from Hounslow has been jailed.














19 year old Imran Khan was found guilty of two counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs on Wednesday.

He was also found guilty of obstructing a constable after throwing an electric scooter at the officers who stopped him.

After a stop and search they found 10 wraps of heroin and 9 wraps of crack cocaine on his person.

He has been sentenced to 3 years and 1 month in prison.

A murder investigation has been launched after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death in a park in Croydon.

Police were called to Ashburton Park just after 7 o'clock last night.

It's the 29th teenage killing in the capital this year - the highest since 2008.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel was left seething after his side conceded a stoppage-time equaliser to draw 1-all at home to Brighton in the Premier League.

They're up to second - but are eight points off the pace and saw both Reece James and Andreas Christensen added to a growing injury list.

Tuchel admits it makes it very hard for them to stay in the title race.

Figures released after a Freedom on Information Act request have revealed the costs of policing protests by Insulate Britain.

The Metropolitan Police spent over £4 million pounds after major roads were blocked for three months causing massive disruption.

From September to November, Surrey Police spent £110,000 on overtime costs alone and expect the bill to be much higher.

Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend has said the actions will not be tolerated.

A burglar has targeted a Tesco Express in New Malden.

The incident happened at approximately five to 3 Wednesday morning.

It’s believed the Tesco on The Triangle was broken into using a vehicle.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank was over the moon with his side's performance in their Premier League 1-nil defeat to Manchester City.

The free-scoring champions had scored at least four goals in their last three top flight matches heading into last night's game.

Frank called their first-half display "a masterclass in defensive organisation".

An artist from Richmond has donated the proceedings of his artwork.

Jim Sitch’s generosity has helped support 87 newly settled refugees.

His painting ‘I Saw Three Ships’ was feature in this year’s TAC Advent Calendar.

The original painting was donated to the Derbyshire Refugee Support Group, who have made over £500 from it.

An event at the Wetland Centre in Barnes is providing families with the opportunity to find out more about the value of our wetlands.

Open every evening until the 9th of January, Illuminature is an outdoor experience featuring a magical light trail amongst trees and ponds. 

There are several interactive sculptures as well as a display of giant wetland critters and creepy crawlies.

Wetlands are the most effective carbon sinks on the planet, locking away huge amounts of carbon to mitigate climate change.

Chessington Zoo is celebrating the birth of rare Spider Monkey twins on 13th November.

 Chessington Zoo is celebrating the birth of rare Spider Monkey twins on 13th November.

The twins, one boy and one girl have been named Brussel and Sprout as part of the festive season.

A third spider monkey called Cranberry was also born.

This means there are now 15 of the critically endangered species in the Amazu area of the zoo.

Former Chelsea and England captain John Terry is returning to the Premier League club as a coaching consultant with their academy

He made over 700 appearances for the Londoners, winning 17 trophies - including five Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Terry most recently worked as assistant to Dean Smith at Aston Villa.

A 15-year-boy was the victim of a serious assault in Epsom on Boxing Day.

He was approached by a group of five boys on Waterloo Road at around 6.30pm and was hospitalised with serious injuries requiring surgery.

A 16-year-old boy from Epsom and two boys under the age of 16 have been arrested in connection with this investigation.

Anyone with any information including dashcam footage is asked to call police on 101.

He puts it down to  their opponents being so good at keeping the ball.

They host the Premier League leaders, who have won their last nine top flight matches.

Frank says they've shown they can be competitive though.

Labour has criticised the shortage of PCR and lateral flow coronavirus tests

Labour MP for Streatham Bell Ribeiro-Addy tweeted this morning that the situation was “shambolic”

As of 11-30 this morning, they couldn't be ordered online.

PCR test appointments for people in England and Northern Ireland aren't currently available - even for key workers.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel says he's “super concerned” for the health of his players as they prepare to face Brighton this evening.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Callum Hudson-Odoi will be asked to play a second Premier League game in 48 hours just days after coming out of coronavirus isolation.

Tuchel doesn't understand why his call to re-introduce five substitutes hasn't got more backing.

A teenager has been charged for the murder of 14 year old Jermaine Cools in Croydon.

The 16 year old male will appear in court today after being arrested on Monday.

He’s also being charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

A murder investigation was launched after Jermaine attended hospital with stab injuries after a fight, but died a short time later.

Over 50 Cherry trees have been planted across Wandsworth.

Gifted by the Sakura Cherry Tree Project, the initiative is to promote friendship between Japan and the UK 

The trees are due to form a striking new avenue in King George’s Park

The project was formally launched with a planting ceremony at Regent’s Park attended by HRH The Duke of Gloucester.

Kingston Council has drafted a new five-year homelessness and rough sleeping strategy.

The draft, which has been launched for consultation, wants to help identify the warning signs of someone who is at risk of homelessness. 

The Council aims to take a new approach to supporting those with complex lives by partnering with specialised voluntary organisations.

The strategy has an overall aim of preventing homelessness and ending rough sleeping by 2024.

A man has been found guilty of carrying out several offences across Hampton Hill.














34 year old Scott Mills-Jones has been convicted of 7 offences including motor vehicle interference.

He was sentenced to just under 2 years in jail.

He was handed 3 months for each offence to run concurrently.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a teenager in Croydon.

Jermaine Cools, who was 14, died of stab wounds following reports of a fight in at the train station last month.

By the time police got to the incident, no suspects were there.

The 16-year-old suspect remains in custody.

Harlequins have climbed above Northampton into the top four of rugby union's Premiership.

The champions went third with a 41-27 win over their rivals for a play-off place in the return of their annual match at Twickenham.

Quins ran in six tries, with Alex Dombrandt crossing the line three times.

A driver has been reported and his vehicle banned from the roads after police stopped it at Cobham services.










They received reports of a damaged car driving along the M25 with another vehicles bumper hanging off the back of it.

The driver told officers he’d crashed the car in Kent and “thought it would be ok” to continue his journey.

His breath test came back positive, but he was under the legal drink-drive limit.

He’s been reported for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

Crystal Palace aim to continue their good home form this afternoon.

They host the Premier League's bottom side Norwich, having lost just once in nine games at Selhurst Park.

Palace tried to get their Boxing Day match at Tottenham called off due to an outbreak of Covid-19 which saw boss Patrick Vieira absent.

Assistant manager Osian Roberts says their focus is on responding positively to the defeat at Spurs.

Businesses in Croydon are set to benefit from financial support as the Omicron variant affects local trade.

Croydon Council’s making funding available for Pubs, clubs, restaurants, and entertainment venues.

The much-needed cash will protect thousands of local jobs. 

It comes from the £2.67m top-up grant it received from government to support local businesses.

Heathrow has been forced to cancel flights because of Omicron variant.

More than 60 flights were left grounded because crew members or ground staff have tested positive or are isolating.

According to FlighAware, BA, Lufthansa and several others scrapped at least 2400 flights on Christmas Eve with just under 1800 grounded Christmas Day.

Croydon Council is due to support residents in need of urgent help this winter.

£3million of funding from the Department for Work and Pensions will help with food, fuel and other essentials up until March next year.

The majority of the fund will go on supporting families with children under-19 who receive child-related benefits.

Residents aged over 16 in need of financial help can also apply for support on the council website.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank says the Premier League should return to allowing teams to make five substitutions in a game.

The rule was brought in at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic to manage player welfare, but has since been reduced back to three changes per match.

With a piled up fixture list, and Covid concerns throughout the top flight, Frank thinks action needs to be taken.

A cyclist was taken to hospital after a collision in Richmond Park.











Yesterday, a vehicle slowed down to allow geese to cross the road resulting in a male cyclist hitting the rear and going through the back window.

The incident happened at around midday between Kingston Gate and Ham Gate.

The cyclist was treated for his injuries at hospital; they’re not life threatening or life changing.

A children’s playground in Hounslow has been given a make over.

The new additions at Hanworth Park include swings, climbing ropes and nets, a multi play area, safety surfaces and a zip wire.

These are the latest improvements to the space which has already seen new benches, a Park Run circuit and CCTV cameras installed.

It comes after the Council was successful in gaining more than £180,000 in funding last year.

A woman has suffered life threatening injuries after a car accident in Carshalton.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident where a car collided with a tree on Christmas Day at 00:40am in Beeches Avenue.

Two women in their 20s and both occupants of the car were taken to hospital for treatment.

One woman remains there in a critical condition; the rest of the victim’s injuries are not life threatening.

Steven Gerrard won't be at Aston Villa's next two Premier League games, including his side's match against Chelsea later

The head coach has tested positive for Covid-19, there have been several cases among the squad.

Speaking before he contracted coronavirus, he admitted he may have to bring in some academy players for the game.

Hounslow Council says improvements to one of its biggest parks is “all about the swing and roundabouts.”

The play area at Hanworth has been given a makeover, with the old equipment replaced or brought up to date through repair work. 

 Improvements include new swings, climbing ropes and nets, a new multi-play area, safety surfaces and a zip wire.  

The new play area is the latest in a line of improvements at the park, which have included new benches and the installation of CCTV.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel admits it's been an emotionally testing time of late

Concerns over player welfare have been raised, with Covid-19 issues causing havoc with the football calendar.

Chelsea face Aston Villa this afternoon - who've had a challenging time with Covid, and boss Steven Gerrard's the latest to test positive.

Tuchel says people in the game are worried about far more than just football.

A number of housing estates across Wandsworth are in line for redevelopment

Plans for Platt North and Platt South will see two ‘brownfield’ sites demolished and replaced with new council homes. 

While the proposals on the Putney Vale Estate are for a four-storey building.

Each of the homes in the developments will come with outdoor space in the form of a garden or balcony and cycle storage. 

All new homes within the programme are being prioritised for Wandsworth residents and key workers.
