Computer programming club CoderDojo is hosting a demonstration of new, unreleased “Scratch” projects on the 22nd.
The zoom meeting will give 7 to 17 year olds a chance to experience what it’s like to be a coding tester.

New traffic barriers have come into force in Richmond Park and Bushy Park from today to stop drivers using them as a short-cut.
Radio Jackie went to Richmond Park earlier to see how the scheme was working there.
Ron Crompton, who chairs 'Friends of Richmond Park' is happy with the way The Royal Parks have managed the scheme and is happy to see fewer cars and more cyclists using the park since it's opened following lockdown.
But Gay Tyrell, who lives at Roehampton Gate, says it's becoming more dangerous for pedestrians as groups of cyclists are speeding along the quiet roads.

People caught fly-tipping at Spelthorne Depot now face tougher penalties.
The council is deploying so called “Community Protection Notices.”
Failure to comply with the notice can lead to a fixed penalty notice, remedial action or a court order.
The council says people have been dumping litter at the recycling depot at all hours meaning more work for council staff.
Five “serial offenders” have already been issued with the notice.

The government will cover the cost of schools in England appealing against exam results.
Education secretary Gavin Williamson says it would be a shocking injustice if schools were put off appeals because of the cost.
In Kingston, the council’s been monitoring A-level results and says the feedback shows a disproportionate number of inaccurate grades.
But at Kingston University Dr Hannah Moir says they’re doing their best to help those students without a University place – through clearing.

The future of Debenhams stores in Staines, Sutton, Hounslow and Woking is looking uncertain.
That's following reports about liquidation, which could lead to the single-biggest jobs cull of the coronavirus pandemic.
It's thought the department store chain has brought in Hilco Capital, who specialise in helping to wind down distressed retail businesses.
That's in case a sale is unsuccessful.
Earlier this week, the company announced it's cutting 2-and-a-half thousand jobs.

A man from Fulham who suffocated his girlfriend as part of an eighteen month campaign of abuse has been jailed for 2 and a half years.
23 year-old Chakib Aoual subjected his victim to physical and emotional abuse, .
He trashed her home, spent £40,000 she’d inherited, threatened to kill her dog and hid her glasses so she couldn’t leave her flat.
Aoual, of Fulham Gardens SW6, was also given a restraining order to prevent him contacting the woman when he was sentenced at isleworth Crown Court.

MPs Munira Wilson and Sarah Olney have taken on the roles.
The Lib Dems who represent Twickenham and Richmond Park, will help advocate the needs of older people in the borough.
Mrs Wilson is also the Lib Dem spokesperson for Health, Wellbeing and Social Care.

Richmond Council says it’s worried proposed changes to planning laws will override residents and favour developers.
The Government’s ‘Planning for the Future’ reforms include altering Local Plans.
This means land would fall into one of only three categories: growth, renewal or protected.
Planning permission would be "automatically secured" for areas categorised for growth.
Current agreements under which developers deliver affordable homes in exchange for building permission, would also be scrapped.
Richmond says it is not alone in its concerns and is urging the Government to reconsider.

A mobile testing unit will be offering Covid-19 tests in Wandsworth again this weekend.
Anyone experiencing symptoms can take a test; you don’t have to be a key worker.
The location of the pop-up centre will only be revealed once an appointment has been booked via the council website.

The heatwave may have caused the full closure of Hammersmith Bridge.
The Grade II listed structure was closed off to vehicles in April last year over safety fears, but it’s now shut to cyclists and pedestrians too.
Boats also aren’t allowed to cross the Thames beneath it.
Hammersmith and Fulham council, which manages the bridge, says the heatwave exacerbated the deterioration in the structure.

Premiership rugby union resumes later for the first time in five months.
Things will be very different from when fixtures were last played - with some rules changed to stop the spread of coronavirus and games being played behind closed doors.
Twickenham-based Harlequins face Sale this evening and Quins head of rugby Paul Gustard believes some players may need time to adapt.

Richmond Park’s MP is challenging the Education Secretary on what she’s calling the “A-Level results chaos.”
Lib Dem Sarah Olney has written to Gavin Williamson to admit the Government got the grading system “wrong.”
She says many young people across Richmond and Kingston have been affected by downgrading by Ofqual.
Mrs Olney says this has damaged their university study opportunities and therefore their long-term prospects.

There’s been an increase in Covid-19 cases in Hounslow.
37 were identified at the start of the month, mostly in the Heston East area.
Public health officials consider this increase is likely due to wider family and friends meeting and not maintaining social distancing.
A council spokesman says “This small increase should not cause residents to worry but it does demonstrate there is no room for complacency.”

“A critical piece of London’s infrastructure cannot be allowed to crumble into the Thames”
That’s the view of Richmond Cllr Alexander Ehmann who wants the Government to step in to help fund Hammersmith Bridge’s repairs.
The Grade II listed crossing was closed off completely last night after the heat wave exacerbated on-going structural damage.
The repair bill is though to be as much as £140 million.

Police investigating an arson attack in Staines a year ago have released a CCTV image of a man they’d like to question
Officers were called to a printer’s workshop on the A30 at around 3am on Thursday, the 15th of August.
Witnesses claimed to see someone throw a firebomb before making off on foot towards the Crooked Billet roundabout.
Detectives are hoping the image will jog someone’s memory.

A member of the public has been injured during a police pursuit along the A3 through Esher this afternoon
Officers were pursuing a silver Mazda in response to a 999 call when it joined the A3 near Painshill at 2pm.
The car then collided with a black Lexus, leaving a member of the public with minor injuries.
Police are asking witnesses with dashcam footage to come forward.

Firefighters took almost 100 calls in one hour yesterday about flash flooding in Croydon
Crews attended incidents where a number of people were trapped by rapidly rising water.
Firefighters used sandbags to try and prevent water coming into people’s homes.
In one incident, a ceiling collapsed at a car showroom in Coulsdon; ten people escaped uninjured.

Hammersmith Bridge is now completely closed, after a crack worsened in the structure
Pedestrians and cyclists were still allowed to cross it, but now it’s been deemed unsafe.
Boats aren’t allowed to pass under it either.
The bridge is Grade II listed, and is one of only two cast iron bridges in the world.

Two people have been taken to hospital following a house fire in Ashtead
Emergency services were called this morning to Craddocks Avenue.
They closed the road and evacuated neighbouring houses.
Police are thanking local residents for their cooperation and patience.

An 18-year-old boy from Mitcham, who suffers from a rare kind of cancer, is to cycle 100 miles this weekend for charity
Joe Lunn was due to take part in the Marathon and Ride London, but they were cancelled due to the pandemic.
On Sunday, he’ll be cycling in his back garden for the Rays of Sunshine charity, who have supported him.
Joe says “this is about me giving something back”, and he’s launched a fundraiser.

Kingston Hospital is reassuring people that they can seek help from the NHS
They’re saying that many consultations with GPs can be done via phone or Skype.
For those who have to come in, one way systems, masks and hand canisters are in the practices.
They’ve released a short video of doctors encouraging people to use the service.

Hammersmith Bridge is now fully closed
Inspectors found a crack in the structure has worsened over the past week, probably due to the extreme heat.
The council says they worked round the clock to reduce the temperature of the cast iron bridge, including hosing it down with cold water.
It closed to cars and buses last April, but remained open to pedestrians and cyclists until now.
The repair bill is believed to be £140m.

Epsom and Ewell council is asking the government to consider setting a lower house building target for the borough
Bosses want it cut from 579 to 215 a year.
If Government changes to planning laws announced last week go ahead, the target could increase further to 604 homes per year.
Epsom and Ewell says its own predictions are based on the latest Office for National Statistics figures.

Police in Mitcham are denying rumours of a hostage situation
Armed officers were seen going into a house on Streatham Road, near the Eveline Road bus stop.
The surrounding area was also taped off.
Pictures started circulating on social media at around 7pm last night.
The force says they were in the area “as part of an ongoing investigation” and a man in his twenties is in custody.

Old style film reels are believed to be behind a house fire in Balham
Part of the first floor of the mid-terraced property in Scholars Road was damaged and the roof was destroyed by the blaze last night.
Up until the 1950s, cellulose nitrate was used as the plastic for photography and cinematic films.
It’s thought the reels self-heated in the scorching weather before catching fire.

Police investigating an indecent exposure in Nonsuch Park in Cheam have released an e-fit of the suspect
A man was jogging through the park at around 6am on August the 1st when he spotted another man walking ahead of him.
The man was naked apart from a black bag and black trainers; police are keen to talk to him.

Police in Thornton Heath have seized an imitation gun, drugs and a hammer from eight men
The force has just released details about the incident last Wednesday, when they saw a group of men acting suspiciously, then fleeing from officers.
They were taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a firearm, vehicle theft, and robbery, and have been released under investigation.
Further patrols are now planned around the area.

A drug dealer is facing three years behind bars after being found guilty of multiple drugs offences
29 year old Christopher Amirjani was found guilty of three counts of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.
He was arrested in February after officers stopped his car outside Cobham Park Estate and noticed a strong smell of cannabis.
They searched the car and uncovered a kilo of class A drugs, around £1,000 in cash, and four mobile phones.

Richmond Council has agreed to monitor trials launched by Royal Parks to cut vehicles using the open spaces as cut-throughs
The 6-month long trials will begin in Bushy and Richmond Parks on Saturday.
The Council says it will be monitoring the impacts on nearby communities, including congestion and air quality, closely.

A dig in Bisley to find the body of a woman murdered in 2002 has found nothing
41-year-old Tina Baker was last seen in Sunbury 18 years ago, and her body has never been recovered.
Her husband was convicted of the murder in 2006, and sentenced to 14 years behind bars.
Information had been received, which lead to the three-day dig, but forensic officers and the Army found no leads.

Firefighters have issued a smoking safety reminder following a fire at a building in Parsons Green
Crews extinguished the blaze by the storeroom at street level of a shop with flats above in New Kings Road.
The fire caused a small amount of damage to a ground water gutter, but no damage was done to the shop.
Investigators believe the fire was caused by the disposal of a cigarette which ignited a build up of debris in a ground water gutter.
A spokesperson says: "We’d rather you didn’t smoke at all, but if you do, it’s absolutely vital you ensure your cigarette is completely out.”

Record breaking students at Rivers Academy in Feltham talk to Radio Jackie about their A'level results
Year 13 students at Rivers Academy West London have achieved record-breaking A-level results.
27% of all A-level grades were at A* or A and 53% of all grades were at A*-B.
This year’s cohort of 40 students have secured places at prestigious UK universities including Oxford, Birmingham, Imperial and Queen Mary. One student has also secured a place at a US Ivy League university.
18 year old Vignesh Iyer achieved his predicted grades of 4 A* in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Spanish. He will now take up his place to study Chemistry at Oxford University’s Balliol College.
18 year old Kyle Nunes has achieved his predicted grades of three A*s in Maths, Chemistry and Economics to take up his place to study Economics and Management at Oxford University’s Worcester College.
He is the first in his family to study at university.
They've been telling Emily Dexter all about their experience.
Principal Andria Singlehurst said: ‘We are thrilled with the results which mirror the exceptional drive of our students.
‘This truly is an awe-inspiring achievement for students and staff at the Academy. Rice is a prestigious Ivy League university and received applications from 27,000 students this year with only 2,000 accepted and only 10% of those from overseas.

The man behind a football club in Sutton for disabled people has won two awards for his work
Steve King formed Sutton United Disability in 2015, and has seen the club grow from two to 40 players.
The Surrey Football Association have now awarded him Grassroots Coach of the Year for Adult, and Grassroots project of the year.
Steve thanked the coaches for their work giving “adults with disabilities fantastic opportunities and providing a safe and friendly atmosphere”.

Almost two in five A-level students in England have had the grades given by their teacher downgraded
That equates to around 280-thousand results being changed.
It's part of a moderation system - brought in after exams were scrapped during lockdown.
In England, pupils who aren't happy with their results can appeal to use their mock results instead - but details of that process haven't been announced yet.
They'll be able to apply for their mock grades to be used, or sit exams in the autumn.

A sculpture made out of used mobile phones is the become a centrepiece at Kingston’s Guildhall
Genuine Solutions is to donate phones beyond repair to create the sculpture.
Kingston’s residents have until the end of the month to submit their design ideas for the piece.
The move follows a campaign by Kingston’s Mayor to get residents to donate their old phones, raising £4,000 for charity.

Surrey’s firefighters are claiming understaffing left them short of fire engines during last weekend’s wildfires in Chobham
The Norbiton based Fire Brigades Union says up to six engines were unavailable at any one time because of a lack of crews.
Firefighters from London, Hampshire, West Sussex and Berkshire had to be brought in to aid the operation.
The FBU also says several fire engines sat idly in Surrey’s stations as there were no firefighters available to crew them.
We’ve approached Surrey Fire and Rescue for comment.
Twenty firefighters are to return to the common today to monitor it, and people are urged to avoid the area as flash floods are possible.

Two men have been charged in connection with a sexual assault and robbery in Staines.
19 year old Valentin-Vasile Buga and 27 year old Ionut Cristea have been remanded in custody until next month.
A third man, who was arrested in connection with the incident, has been released under investigation.
A woman was crossing the bridge at Mustard Mill Road when she was sexually assaulted and robbed of her handbag on Friday night.

Eight NHS groups across North-West London may merge, in a proposal that includes Hammersmith and Fulham.
According to the Clinical Commissioning Groups, this will help them save money and share information more easily.
Each borough will continue to have its own team to tailor services to local needs.
They’ll be consulting with councils, GPs and people over the next six weeks.

A 57-year-old man received injuries to his head after an “unprovoked” attacked in Croydon.
On the 20th of July, the man was outside Poundland on North End road when he was barged by another man.
When he stopped and told him he shouldn’t do that, the man became aggressive and punched him.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them on 101, or contact Crimestoppers to remain anonymous.

A drug dealer from Feltham has been jailed.
27-year-old Jesse Katende was arrested during a vehicle stop in Staines in mid-June, then a house in the area was searched the same day.
He’s been sentenced to three years and eight months behind bars.
PC Jordan says “a little can really go a long way” and he’s “grateful for every single call” regarding information about drug dealing.

Police used GPS tracking devices to track four burglars from Heathrow to Luton.
The group had travelled from the Republic of Ireland to carry out burglaries across England.
In Luton, they were found to be targeting the owners of a restaurant business, and were tracked down and arrested.
Three have been sentenced to three months in jail, and another for four months.

The damage from a grassland fire in Hounslow is being assessed today.
Two hectares of open land and shrubland off Waye Avenue caught fire yesterday afternoon.
There were no reports of any injuries.

Housing charity Rentstart has made UK history by opening a lettings agency for homeless people in Walton High Street.
Rentstart has been operating for the last 20 years out of portacabins and temporary offices.
The charity works with landlords who provide them with properties; 82% of clients housed last year are still in their homes.

More young people in custody in South West London are being given the chance to speak to a youth worker.
The Met Police has launched a new project called “Engage” aimed at supporting children away from further offending.
Dedicated youth workers are now available at a number of custody suites including Merton and Wandsworth for 10 to 17 year olds.
They will then arrange to meet again within 24-48 hours post release to explore crime diversion activities and educational opportunities.

Part of the roof of the building in Fulham Road was destroyed but there were no reports of any injuries.

Two vehicles were involved in a collision with a lorry on the southbound stretch just after 9am.
Those involved received minor injuries.

A love of dogs has led a 13-year-old autistic girl from Woking to a unique partnership that could be life changing.
With the onset of puberty, Keira Boyce started to struggle with sensory overload, which prevented her from attending school.
She has been matched with an autism support dog trained to provide safety and companionship enabling more independence.
Noodle, a golden Labrador, is due to arrive in October.
Her family is trying to raise the remaining £1,500 to make this union happen.

Richmond council will begin reopening its day care centres for vulnerable adults next week
The Sheen Lane Centre in East Sheen, the Access Project Day Centre in Whitton and the Woodville Centre in Ham were closed in March.
The three sites will be the first to open on Monday with temperature checks in place for staff and residents.
The transport buses will also be deep cleaned using the “fogging” technique.

British Airways has reportedly reached a deal with trade unions to reduce job cuts and “mitigate the impact of redundancies”
Reuters saw an internal message from the CEO saying they’ve made “significant progress” for customer-facing staff in Heathrow and in Engineering.
However, the Financial Times is saying that there could be compulsory redundancies for engineers, but not ground staff.
The airline was planning to cut 12,000 jobs as part of cost-saving measures.

Reports of a buckled rail have caused delays on the trains between Surbiton and New Malden
Network Rail says they were called out to Berrylands because of a report it had been damaged in the heat there.
Inspectors found the rail needed a small repair before services could be run through the area again.

A man who made over £11,000 after scamming vulnerable Surrey residents as an unqualified locksmith has been jailed for 18 months
Shaun Phasey from Staines was trading as SP Locks and 24/7 Emergency Locksmith Services over a nine-month period.
He quoted and subsequently completed work for five residents who paid via a chip and pin device.
They later noticed much higher amounts of money had been taken from their bank accounts, most of which were in the thousands.
When they contacted Phasey, he offered to refund them but never did.
Upon sentencing, a judge told him he would have received a suspended sentence had he been true to his word and re-payed his victims.

Three men have been arrested in connection with a sexual assault and robbery in Staines
A woman was walking towards the town centre on Friday night when she was attacked from behind by two men.
Both were in their early to mid 30s, white, and one had a Romanian or Russian accent.
One of the men has been released under investigation, but two are in custody.
Anyone with information should contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers to remain anonymous.

The government has announced £300m for the NHS to prepare for the winter
The money is to upgrade A&E facilities, such as expanded waiting areas and more treatment cubicles.
That includes £6.1m for Epsom and St Helier, where acute services are in the process of moving to a new site near the Royal Marsden.

Investigations are continuing following a mass brawl in Byfleet on Friday night.
Officers were called to High Road just before 11pm.
A large group of people were found fighting, with many sustaining injuries, though none are thought to be life-threatening.
A 41-year-old man and a 32-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
Both have since been released on police bail and enquiries continue.

Police have been called to a fail to stop this evening in New Malden.
A young child was injured after being struck by a van in Poplar Grove but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver failed to stop following the incident, and shortly afterwards a van was found abandoned nearby.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

We’re being asked to have a socially distanced picnic for the Poppy Factory.
Marble Hill House in Twickenham is hosting a series of free live music performances each Sunday afternoon.
Operation Picnic aims to encourage people to enjoy a gathering at the site while making a donation to the Richmond based factory.
The charity helps wounded, injured and sick veterans get back into the world of work after service.

Face to face support has resumed for victims of domestic abuse in Sutton.
The One Stop Shop is a free drop-in service on Wednesday mornings at Sutton Baptist Church.
Covid-19 measures are in place to ensure victims can access help and advice safely.
A number of Boots and Superdrug pharmacies are also setting aside consultation rooms for anyone needing a safe space urgently.

Epsom and St Helier Hospitals are being handed over £6 million to upgrade their A&E facilities ahead of winter
The funding is part of £1.5 billion announced by the Prime Minister to upgrade a number of hospitals across the country.
The news follows a decision at the start of July by NHS England to build a new “super hospital” in Sutton next to the Royal Marsden.
This will eventually mean that acute services like A&E and maternity are relocated out of Epsom and St Helier hospitals to the new base.

A number of people have been taken to hospital after a large fight on Byfleet High Street
Police were called just before 11pm on Friday night, where they found several people injured.
None of the injuries are life threatening or changing.
A 41-year-old and a 32-year-old man have since been arrested on suspicion of GBH.
They’ve been bailed, and police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

A trial ban on vehicles using Richmond and Bushy Parks begins on Saturday
Bushy Park will see a full-time closure on Chestnut Avenue between Teddington and Hampton Court Gates to motor traffic.
Visitors will still be able to drive and park vehicles but access to car parks will be from the closest gate only, with no driving through the park.
A weekday trial at Richmond Park will restrict all through-traffic between Broomfield Hill Car Park and Robin Hood Car Park and close the vehicle link between Sheen Gate and Sheen Cross.
Additionally, at Richmond Park on weekends, the trial will restrict all cut-through traffic between Roehampton, Sheen and Richmond Gates, ensuring this part of the park is a more enjoyable space for all park visitors.
Mat Bonomi, Head of Transport for The Royal Parks, said: “Richmond and Bushy Parks are much loved by local residents and those from further afield who are seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a breath of fresh air.
“The reduction of cut-through traffic in these parks has already dramatically changed them for the better, allowing visitors to experience their beauty without a backdrop of commuter traffic. Never before have we seen so many families and children walking, riding and playing on Chestnut Avenue.
“We believe this project will go a long way to reducing the negative effects of cut-through traffic. The trial will ensure all car parks are still accessible for those who need them.”
These are part of wider trials across all the Royal Parks with the charity saying it has long aspired to reduce cut-through traffic.
As a result of the Covid-19 crisis, the parks have been closed or partially closed to motor vehicles since the end of March and many of the proposed trial measures are already in place.
The beginning of the trials follows the launch of the charity’s Movement Strategy in July, which sets a coherent framework to help shape and inform the policies relating to how park visitors can access, experience and move within the parks and incorporated wide-ranging consultation across thousands of members of the public, transport partners and local Boroughs.
The trials will be measured and monitored through visitor satisfaction surveys in the parks (where possible due to Covid-19 restrictions), feedback from stakeholders, organisations and residents and evaluating external implications in partnership with relevant transport authorities, including TfL and boroughs.
A formal consultation with all park visitors, residents and stakeholders will take place in November and December.

That’s higher than the London average of 79%.
There have been over 8,300 Covid tests in Richmond over the last 30 days giving the borough the second highest testing rate in the capital.

Putney Animal Hospital is officially going to close
A drop in donations has caused a predicted £47m hole in the charity’s finances over the next three years.
All 43 staff will lose their jobs after it shuts down on September 30th.
They’ll be writing to all public clients to advise them of other charities who offer subsidised vet services.
Politicians, vets and members of the public took part in a protest against the closure at the end of last month.

People in Surrey are being asked where they’d like to see walking and cycle paths
The County Council is launching a new tool that allows people to mark on a map where they’d like to see changes.
They’re applying for £7.8m from the government to deliver on the ideas.
The move follows resistance to a proposed cycle path along Esher Road.

A man who’s believed to have exposed himself repeatedly in a park in Wimbledon is being hunted by police
Police were called just before 7.30pm on the 26th of July to Garfield Park, near Haydons Road tube station.
When police arrived, they were told he’d been seen in the park the previous day.

There are calls to reopen the minor injuries unit at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton
Putney MP Fleur Anderson says that people are going there and being turned away.
She’s calling it a “major gap in healthcare” as there’s no A&E in the constituency.
The hospital doesn’t treat COVID-19 patients, meaning many want to go there rather than to St George’s in Tooting.
The hospital has agreed to assess whether people being turned away are going elsewhere for treatment.

The immigration minister is meeting his French counterpart today to discuss the growing number of migrants risking their lives to get to the UK in small boats
Between Thursday and Sunday, almost 700 people made the perilous journey.
Health minister Edward Argar says the prime minister's keen to change the "legal framework" of those who enter the country via that route.
It’s been reported that France could be added to the quarantine list, but immigration minister Chris Philp, who's also the MP for Croydon South, won’t need to self-isolate for 14 days under the current rules.

Humans use the visual part of their brain when hearing sounds in the dark, even if they’ve never had sight in their lifetime
That’s according to an international group of researchers, led by Royal Holloway in Egham.
It shows that neither visual imagery or experience is needed for the primary visual cortex to decipher sounds.
Scientists say this shows that humans have a basic brain mechanism that’s old enough to be conserved even in blind people.

Traders in Balham say business is booming since the council pedestrianised a popular shopping route
Bedford Hill was closed to vehicle traffic to aid social distancing and encourage walking and cycling last month.
The change has allowed bars and restaurants to place tables and chairs on what would usually be a busy road.
Business leaders say the temporary change has led to a massive increase in footfall.

Two men have been arrested in Kingston on suspicion of assaulting emergency workers.
The two separate incidents occurred on Saturday night, and it’s believed both were drunk.
One man was found to have an knife in his rucksack, and was further arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.
Police say “There is literally no good reason to be THAT drunk”.

The Met Police’s football team have started a fundraiser for a clubhouse at their ground in East Molesey.
The team wants to refurbish a building at Imber Court, and are aiming to raise £50,000.
They say they receive no financial help from the Met, and aren’t allowed to receive Football Foundation grants.
The clubhouse would be used by the whole team, but especially their 40 junior teams, and would have a classroom for their academy students.

Kensington and Chelsea is the worst borough for buy-to-let landlords in London, according to new research.
According to lettings management platform Howsy, it gives an average yield of just 2.6%.
In a survey of boroughs and commuter towns, Kingston also came in the bottom ten, with 3.1%.
Best is Tower Hamlets, with 4.7% return on the investment.

The Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond will remain closed for the rest of the year.
While other theatres are reopening, they say that the lower income from social distancing won’t make it financially viable to open their doors.

A property in Tadworth that’s been at the centre of violence, abuse, and loud gatherings has been closed for three months.
Residents in Chavecroft Terrace came forward to support the closure, providing evidence of how the disorder had impacted them.
If anyone is found inside the premises, they’ll be arrested.
Sergeant Kelly Clifton-Sinclair says “this community deserves better than to have drugs, violence, and anti-social behaviour on its doorstep”.

They were taken in on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

A number of guests have been evacuated after a hotel caught fire in Croydon
The blaze broke out at the building in Wellesley Road on Saturday lunchtime.
The fire broke out in a linen cupboard and no one was injured.

Thieves have made off with one of Richmond’s air quality monitoring units
The mobile equipment was stolen from a grass verge on the A316 outside Richmond College sometime on Thursday.
Monitoring takes place 24 hours a day and it was only revealed the unit was missing when it ceased transmitting data.
Officers found the locked and alarmed unit had gone, with clear signs that the metal legs had been removed and the power had been cut.

It seems the message “take your litter home with you” still isn’t getting through to some park users
Deer have been filmed eating plastic rubbish out of bins in Bushy Park.
The footage, which can be viewed on the Radio Jackie Twitter feed, was taken this morning by wildlife photographer Sue Lindenberg.
Royal Parks says despite bigger bins and more collections, there was an extra 13 tonnes of rubbish left in Bushy Park in June alone.

Surrey Police are searching an area of Bisley as part of a murder investigation from 2002
Tina Baker was killed by her husband, who was sentenced to 14 years behind bars in 2006.
The 41 year old was last seen in Sunbury, but her body has never been recovered.
The force is digging up an area in Priest Lane after a new lead.

A controversial weedkiller has been banned across Lambeth
Glyphosate, commonly known as Roundup, may cause numerous health defects according to some scientists.
The manufacturer denies this.
The council says that use of it for routine weed management is now banned across all parks, open spaces, and housing estates.
They say that while councils don’t typically have funding for research, they’re committed to investigating all alternatives.

A petition has been started to fight a cycle lane planned for Esher Road
Surrey County Council are consulting on the idea, which will involve reducing the carriageway to one lane in each direction.
Residents are saying that there’s already a cycle lane on the road, and the increased traffic will cause pollution.
There are currently over 1,300 comments on the consultation, many of them negative.

The first new cameras have been installed around the North and South Circulars ahead of its arrival in October next year.
It’s thought the expanded ULEZ will reduce harmful nitrogen oxide emissions from road transport by around 30% across the whole city.
However, expansion is controversial, with Wandsworth due to be split in two when the new zone is introduced.

A new 24 hour helpline has been launched in Croydon for residents affected by hate crime.
The service will give victims and witnesses the chance to talk about their experiences confidentially with trained staff and volunteers.
The line has been set up in conjunction with charity Stop Hate UK.
24,000 people in Croydon signed “Say No To Hate” pledges as part of the council’s zero tolerance campaign last year.

Firefighters in Surrey say it’s still not safe for residents to return to homes affected by a huge wildfire on Chobham Common.
Several people had to be evacuated from the area after the fire, which broke out on Friday lunchtime, spread quickly across 140 acres of heathland.
The cause isn’t know but extreme temperatures re thought to have had an impact.
At its height 40 vehicles, including fire engines, specialist units and 4X4s were being used to tackle the blaze.
The fire service says it could be two days or more before the fires are out.
