Detectives in Croydon have appealed for witnesses following a prolonged attack in which a 31 year-old woman had hair torn from her scalp

 The attack, which police say was racially aggravated, happened as she was getting off a 119 bus outside East Croydon Station on December 18th.

The woman was punched in the back of the head and the attack left her with facial injuries.

Police have also issued a picture of the man they wnt to question.

Hounslow Council has agreed to broaden its approach to tackling inequalities

 Members of the cabinet have been told that poorer communities have been disproportionately affected by the covid pandemic.

11 of Hounslow’s wards are ranked among the most deprived 20 per cent in England.

The council is also planning what it describes as ambitious standards for diversity and inclusion among its workforce.

A major upgrade to one of Staines’ busiest rod junctions has been completed

 Alterations to the crooked Billet Roundabout on the A30 cost £6.4 million.

They included changing the carriageway markings and laying 700 metres of new lanes for pedestrians and cyclists.

More than 20,000 vehicles use the junction at peak times every day.

A charity trying to stamp out digital poverty in Wandsworth has been given a £20,000 boost by the council.

Power to Connect provides laptops, tablets and wi-fi dongles to children whose education was disrupted by lockdown.

So far, it has donated 1,630 devices and also delivered six digital skills training sessions for parents.

The additional funding will help to expand this programme.

Another walk to raise awareness of violence against women and girls is to take place in Twickenham.

It’s being planned for Friday, the 25th of February, at 5.30pm outside Radnor Gardens Café.

Walkers will hand out White Ribbon leaflets asking men to promise to never commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women.

White Ribbon UK is the leading charity that engages with men and boys to end men’s violence against women and girls.

Wandsworth Council is contributing money to the campaign group trying to put a stop to Heathrow expansion.

The authority has long argued against the case for a third runway saying it will have a huge impact on residents and the environment 

The council is providing over £5,500 to the No Third Runway Coalition.

The money will be spent on “core costs” and ensuring the group is providing effective and influential opposition to Heathrow’s plans.

A group of litter pickers from Tadworth, Kingswood, Walton and Burgh Heath have been presented with an award.

Alison, Lisa, Juliet and Sharon started a voluntary group after noticing a massive rise in litter during the first lockdown.

With Reigate and Banstead council providing the necessary kit, they have filled several thousand bags fill of litter.

They have been handed the Keep Britain Tidy ‘litter heroes’ award for all of their hard work.

An man from Addlestone has been handed a five year Criminal Behaviour Order after a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour.












18 year old Jaden Urquhart’s CBO prohibits him from harassing people and socialising with anyone under the age of 17 without their guardians consent.

He is also restricted from entering certain areas including Addlestone railway Station and any land it owns.

The order will remain in place until the 8th of February 2027.

Mole Valley District Council is hosting new training courses for those interested in pursuing a career in hospitality.

Partnering with Crawley College and Horsham District Council, it’s part of a campaign to help the industry recover from the pandemic.

The one-day courses, include areas such as barista training, cocktail making and silver service skills, as well as other managerial skills.

All courses are free and certified by Chichester College Group. 

Councillor Clayton Wellman, said, “We are delighted to be able to support the hospitality sector in its recovery.”

A Swedish hitman, who shot a man dead on his doorstep in front of his wife and child in Battersea, has been found guilty of his murder.

The court was told 36-year-old Flamur Beqiri was an international drugs kingpin - and was targeted as part of a feud with a rival gang.

The killer, 24-year-old Anis Hemissi, was among four killers sent from Sweden to assassinate him.

Three Metropolitan Police officers who worked with Sarah Everard's murderer could face charges over allegations they shared racist and misogynistic messages with him.

Wayne Couzens is serving a whole-life order for the 33-year-old's kidnap in Clapham and murder.

The police watchdog's sent evidence to prosecutors about two current officers and a former colleague.

Yesterday the head of the force, Dame Cressida Dick, stepped down from her role.

Online businesses in Hounslow are being given the chance to win expert support and rent-free retail space on the high street.

Hounslow Council’s partnered with SaveTheHighStreet.org as part of its Innovate and Grow programme to give the town an exciting boost.

Free support from SaveTheHighStreet.org is available across the borough, funded by the Government’s Additional Restrictions Grant.

Surrey police hosted a new safety scheme for children at Chessington World of Adventures.

The Junior Citizen Scheme was offered to all Kingston Year 6 students at local secondary schools.

Topics discussed included stranger danger, fire safety, personal safety, river safety and how to avoid knife crime, among others.

This year, over 1700 children across 28 primary schools throughout Kingston took part in the programme.

Boaters are now going to have to pay mooring fees at Kingston Riverside.

The council says some boaters currently abuse the system and stay for weeks or months at a time.

It carried out a six-week consultation, and it claims that 80% of respondents were in favour of the fees.

Councillor John Sweeney says it will “help protect our riverside environment and ensure it remains a special place for residents and visitor”.

Police are urging van owners in Spelthorne to be vigilant after a number of thefts across the borough.

on Wednesday, a van was broken into at some point between 9.45pm and 9.53pm at the Travel Lodge in Sunbury-On-Thames. 

The suspects had tried break into the back of the vehicle as the handle was broken.

The majority of vehicles being targeted are Ford Transit vans, where a hole is being cut in the side of it, allowing the doors to be released.

People in Spelthorne are being asked to help fill sandbags, to prepare for flooding

The geography of the area means that floods are a year-round risk, especially during the winter.

Buying sandbags is the responsibility of the homeowner, but the council is looking to make a community store of them.

The authority is recommending people install permanent flood protection wherever possible.

South Western Railway is to reinstate its services to pre-Omicron level in ten days time

On Monday the 21st, the Shepperton line will no longer be hourly.

However, the 7am train from Shepperton to Waterloo and the 8.15 ring service from Waterloo via Hounslow won’t be running.

SWR says “following an improvement in staff availability, we can increase service levels without compromising reliability.”

Kingston Council says it acknowledges that litter is a problem at a nature reserve in Berrylands

Used sanitary products are just some of the items walkers at Elmbridge Meadows say they’re finding.    

The authority says it conducts regular clean ups via its contractor and community groups also undertake litter picks. 

It says it is working on erecting new signage, but it didn’t address concerns about the bridge over the Hogsmill being “unsteady.”

A new restaurant in Leatherhead has been called “out of touch”, after it “mistakenly” published a dress code suggesting women needed to dress sexily

Beluga has offered its “sincere apologies”, after asking women to wear “sexy ankle strap heels” and “bodycon dresses”.

Men were asked not to wear tracksuits.

It says that its policy is a “smart dress code”.

The first ever female Metropolitan Police Commissioner says it's with "sadness and regret" that she's stepping down from her role

It's understood Dame Cressida Dick submitted a plan for reforming the force after facing criticism following a series of scandals, including the murder of Sarah Everard by a serving officer.

Head of policing for South-West London, Lis Chapple, says "We are losing a committed public servant, a wonderfully positive role model and a clever, thoughtful, values-led leader".

Kingston MP and Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey has been calling for her resignation since the alleged mishandling of the vigil for Sarah Everard on Clapham Common.

He says Boris Johnson must have no role in choosing her successor, since he’s currently being investigated by the Met.

But London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, says he "wasn't satisfied" with her plans to root out racism, sexism, homophobia, bullying, discrimination and misogyny.

A planned strike by ground handlers at Heathrow Airport has been called off following a dispute over pay.

Members of Unite were due to walk out for three days from tomorrow.

The union says the 400 workers from Menzies Aviation have now received a "substantial" pay offer.

Police have been asked to review Croydon Council’s failings over the refurbishment of Fairfield Halls.

The council has also started its own internal fraud investigation.

The work was originally costed at £30m, and the council-owned developer was loaned money for the scheme.

However, when it was scrapped, the cost was passed onto the taxpayer.

The council says such an event couldn’t happen now due to recent changes.

A man has been jailed after a stop and search in Staines.












24-year-old Nikhil Lama was arrested after police dogs found a large sum of Class A drugs in his vehicle.

Approximately 65 wraps of crack cocaine and a single large rock of Cocaine were found in the car along with an estimated £1,000.

He was arrested on suspicion with intent to supply, no car insurance and driving while disqualified.

He’s been sentenced to just over 3 years behind bars.

Police are hunting for a man they want to speak to, thought to be in Hersham, in connection an ongoing theft investigation.












46-year-old Stephen Breen is described as a white man with short grey hair and is around 5ft 8 inches tall.

He is last known to be in Hersham and also has connections to Stanwell.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact police on 101.

A cannabis factory has been uncovered in Long Ditton.

Elmbridge Neighbourhood Team carried out the drugs warrant at an address in Oaks Way at around 1pm this lunchtime.

A man, who tried to escape via the roof of the property, was arrested after 150 plants were found.

He’s been arrested on suspicion of cultivating a class B drug.

He remains in custody.

The Lib Dem leader says Tolworth should be proud of its music history.

A special David Bowie festival is currently taking place at the station.

It’s marking 50 years since the singer launched Ziggy Stardust at the now defunct Toby Jug pub.

Other acts including Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac and The Drifters also played there. 

Sir Ed Davey, who is also the MP for Kingston and Surbiton, says Tolworth’s history is one to be proud of.

A nurse at St George’s Hospital in Tooting has been selected as one of London’s top 100 champions.

Marlene Johnson was selected by the BBC due to her “outstanding, selfless work” in Palliative Care and a foodbank in Croydon.

She’s been in nursing for over 40 years.

Marlene says “I’ll never stop helping people because it’s in my faith and nature, god loves me and wants me to love people.”

Cash and jewellery have been stolen in a burglary in Ashford.

Police were called Staines Road West on Monday, after a burglary at some point between 7.15pm and 8.15pm.

The suspects smashed down the glass of the back patio door.

It'll be the first meeting between the sides since Marcus Smith helped Eddie Jones' men to a 51-43 victory in 2019.

Hounslow Council is going to expose fly-tippers online

The cost of cleaning up fly-tips last year was £1.3m, with over 63,000 bags of rubbish dumped.

As part of its Let’s Scrap Fly-Tipping campaign, the authority will be publishing CCTV footage on its website.

Anyone caught faces a £400 on the spot fine, but could be hit with up to £50,000 if the case goes to court.

A drug dealer from Richmond who was found with nearly £2,000 in cash has been jailed

In late December, police in Isleworth noticed a vehicle driving evasively and trying to avoid officers.

45-year-old Wesam Abdel-Fattah was stopped, and was found to be carrying 44 wraps of cocaine .

He’s been sentenced to 33 months in prison.

Teachers at 23 private schools are beginning a walk-out later over a row about pensions

Around 1,500 union members who work within the Girls' Day School Trust will go on strike.

That includes Putney, Wimbledon, Sutton and Croydon High Schools

Bosses - who say they're "disappointed" at the action - had proposed withdrawing staff from the Teachers' Pensions Scheme after the government raised employer contributions.

Hammersmith and Fulham’s council leader is demanding Thames Water takes action to reduce flooding.

Stephen Cowan is being joined by residents badly affected by flooding last summer.

The borough was one of the hardest hit in London with thousands of homeowners and businesses affected.

One resident claims his sister’s home was flooded with 1.5 feet of raw sewage costing around £65,000 in damages.

Thames Water says the volume of the rainfall in the July 2021 storm was unprecedented and completely overwhelmed the sewer capacity.

It has promised to listen to the issues and come back with an action plan to lessen the impact of future storms.

The council has also vowed to continue to monitor and repair the thousands of gullies across the borough.

Wallington Bowling Club has bowled over St Helier hospital with a £2,000 donation.

Staff at the site are credited with saving the life of the club’s President, Keith Woods last year.

The 75-year-old collapsed with Covid and was in a critical condition in hospital for three weeks. 

The club’s members, minus Keith who is still recovering, played a special centenary match dedicating the funds to the hospital.

Two RNLI crew members have launched a station to station fundraising challenge.

Brad Johnson and Nick Walton will walk between four sites, including Chiswick and Teddington, as well as 200 underground stations.

The pair, who will be dressed in full lifeboat kits, are hoping to complete the endurance challenge on the 19th this month in 16 hours.

They are celebrating 20 years of combined search and rescue on the Thames coinciding with the charity’s 200th anniversary.

Officers are investigating a “prolonged sexual assault” on a train service from Sanderstead to East Croydon.

 

They have released CCTV images of the incident at 1.45pm on Thursday, the 27th of January.

A man approached a woman on the train asking for directions and offering her his drink as a gift, which she refused. 

As the woman went to get off the train at East Croydon station, he sexually assaulted her.

Kingston Council directors have received a pay increase of almost 40% in three years; that’s over £1 million

The details have been released in response to a Freedom of Information request by the borough’s Green party.

The number of senior managers earning over £100,000 has more than doubled from seven in March 2018 to eighteen in December 2021.

Kingston’s Lib Dems pledged to ‘bring down the cost of senior managers and directors at the council’ in their 2018 manifesto.

A computer science expert’s work in potentially life-saving diagnostic work in cancer is encouraging young women to go into science.

Sarah Barman has speaking ahead of International Day of Women and Girls in Science on Friday.

The day has been adopted internationally to promote equal access and participation for women and girls in science.

Sarah has been named the second annual winner of the Kingston University Woman in STEM Award.

Surrey Police has confirmed it is not investigating footballer Kurt Zouma after a video surfaced of him kicking his cat.

The force liaised with the RSPCA before understanding the location of the incident was not in its jurisdiction.  

More than 90,000 people have signed a petition calling for him to be prosecuted over the footage. 

The West Ham defender's apologised for the video, which was posted to Snapchat, and played for his team last night.

He has been fined £250,000 by his club and his cats have been taken away by the RSPCA.

Surrey Police has tweeted: “We are aware of a video published by the 

@TheSun regarding cruelty towards an animal. We carried out a number of enquiries & liaised with @RSPCA_official before understanding that the location in question was not in our Force area. It has been referred to the appropriate Force.”

Wayne Couzens, the police officer who murdered Sarah Everard, last March has caught Covid.

It’s not been confirmed how ill he is but according to the Sun, he has been placed in isolation in his cell.

The 33-year-old ex-police officer kidnapped the marketing executive in Clapham by staging a fake Covid arrest and went on to murder her.

The outbreak has caused a lockdown on the wing at County Durham prison where Couzens is serving a whole-life tariff.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank says Christian Eriksen will definitely not be involved in tonight's Premier League clash with leaders Manchester City.

The Denmark international hasn't played since suffering a cardiac arrest at the European Championships in June.

He's trained with the club for the first time this week after signing a short-term deal.

There are calls for Teddington Police station to be retained for affordable housing as it’s put up for sale.

Twickenham’s MP, Munira Wilson, and the leader of the council, Gareth Roberts, have written to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

They say if it cannot be saved as a working police station, it should be turned into homes and a doctors’ surgery. 

 Around 100 police stations with front counters closed in London between 2012 and 2017, as part of cost-cutting measures.

A man from Carshalton who attempted to kill his ex-partner after she left him has been jailed

55-year-old Nicholas Hutchins attacked her in an alleyway, but her screams caused members of the public to tackle him and hold him down.

She didn’t receive life threatening injuries.

Hutchins has been given a 19-year sentence, with an extended license of three years.

Police are trying to locate the owner of a stolen bike found in Chertsey.

On Saturday, officers spotted someone acting suspicious riding a bright orange ‘Giant’ mountain bike down Guildford Road.

Further investigations revealed that the bike didn’t belong to the rider and was in fact stolen.

St Cecilia Choral choir has gone from strength to strength since it started life as Banstead Musical Society in 1922.

The group is celebrating its centenary year with a singing workshop and a performance of Mozart’s Requiem in the Spring.

It’s also looking for its 5th choral scholar.

Surrey Police has been recognised as Disability Confident Leaders for its ongoing action for inclusivity in the workforce.

For three years running it’s been handed the ‘Leader’ award for recruiting people with disabilities and long-term health conditions.

Over 20,000 organisations signed up to the Disability Confident scheme, supporting employers to embrace talents of disabled people.

The force is also a member of the Business Disability Forum, a non-profit organisation helping employers create a disability-smart world.

The man who first started using phrases including "Your starter for 10" and "Fingers on buzzers" on University Challenge has died.

Long term Richard resident Bamber Gascoigne was the original host of the quiz show.

He died at the age of 87 after a short illness.

Stephen Fry says the presenter was always "kind and warm" to the "nervous" students on the show.

It’s after Seething Wells Action group accused the authority of “doing nothing” to stop the area from being developed.

Kingston Council says it has limited powers because the beds are owned by a private landowner, Cascina.

Residents living near the site off Portsmouth Road say the site is a critical landscape for wildlife and biodiversity. 

Kingston Council says it has issued Cascina a Section 215 notice which requires it to deal with the neglected state of the beds.  

But council officers say the land has “remained largely in the same condition as when the last review was carried out during 2020.”

Legal experts say Levi Bellfield's alleged confession to the murders of Lin and Megan Russell should be treated with "extreme caution".

He’s already serving life sentences for killing Milly Dowler from Walton, Marsha McDonnell in Hampton and Amelie Delagrange in Twickenham.

Michael Stone was twice found guilty of the Russell murders in 1996.

The detective who led the original investigation into Bellfield, Colin Sutton, is also doubtful he committed them.

The 20mph speed limit is being rolled out in Surbiton.

Signs and road marking are being set out, and it’ll be legally enforceable from the 7th of March.

The A3, and sections on the A243 and A240 will remain at the existing speed limit.

The council says it “significantly lowers the risk of a fatality”.

A “Vaccine Bus” has set off in Hounslow.

It’ll be visiting areas accessible to everyone, but also places where people have found it more difficult to get vaccinated.

Health staff will also be available to talk through people’s concerns.

It’s started in the High Street, but will also be visiting supported accommodation and homeless hostels.

A Police investigation is underway after a fire at a static home in Hampton.

It was destroyed, but there are no reports of any injuries.

The brigade was called yesterday just before 10pm to Priest Close.

The cause is currently unknown.

Two rooms worth of cannabis plants have been seized in Sutton

On Sunday, police executed a warrant at an address in The Wrythe.

They also found two large vacuum packs of cannabis, and £8,000 in cash.

Some of those who surrounded the Labour leader were repeating Boris Johnson's baseless claim that he failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile in his former role.

The original host of University Challenge, Bamber Gascoigne, has died at the age of 87

He was a long-term resident of Richmond, and inherited Grange Park Opera in West Molesey in 2014.

The show originally aired from 1962 to 1987, and returned in 1994 with Jeremy Paxman.

St Cecilia Chorus in Banstead is celebrating its centenary this year with a packed choral repertoire

They will be performing Mozart’s Requiem in Spring followed by the world premiere of British composer Amy Summers in the summer. 

The choir is community based and open to anyone who just enjoys singing.

Frederick Knight was last seen at the Holiday Inn Express last Monday.

It’s not being treated as suspicious.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified, as a routine procedure.

The Prime Minister's under yet more pressure this morning, after his false accusations about Sir Keir Starmer seemingly prompted ugly scenes outside Parliament

The Labour leader was bundled into a police car for his safety after being confronted by a mob last night.

Boris Johnson wrongly claimed the former lawyer had failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile in his previous job.

He's facing calls to apologise.

Feltham Labour MP Seema Malhotra says “Words matter. When Boris Johnson repeats nonsense from conspiracy theorists he emboldens them. He must apologise for his false claims.”

People with loved ones buried at Morden Cemetery say the amount of rubbish they are finding there on a daily basis is increasing.

But they are placing the blame firmly on the type of bins used, rather than litter-louts.

Visitors are calling on Wandsworth Council, which manages the site, to install bins with lids so animals cannot get inside them.

People in Croydon are being urged to make the most of the free drop-in testing centre as national HIV week gets underway.

 The new campaign aims to promote regular testing to help reduce the number of people living with undiagnosed HIV.

The service is open at the CVA Resource centre in Croydon tomorrow between 1-5pm and on Thursday between 12-5pm.

Chelsea will pay damages to a group of former youth team players who alleged they were racially abused at the club in the 1990s.

 Four men were suing the club, with a High Court hearing due next month.

But an out-of-court settlement has been reached, with those involved - who were between 14 and 18 years old at the time of the alleged abuse - set to receive a six-figure payment.

Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes any major tournament held in Britain is good news for supporters.

The UK and Ireland's football associations have confirmed they'll bid to host Euro 2028 - and not the World Cup in 2030.

Lampard, former England midfielder, says previous events on home soil have proved inspirational.

A number of cannabis plants have been found at a property in New Malden.

Police were called last Wednesday morning to Malden Road.

Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have yet been made.

A former bus driver from Chessington has been jailed for life for murdering his wife.

73 year old Keith Bettison strangled Ildiko Bettison at their home on Halloween 2020.

The judge dismissed his claims he acted in self-defence.

Bettison has been sentenced to a minimum prison term of 14 years behind bars.

People in Hounslow with big ideas about the environment are being asked to help the council shape its green future.

Three Community Reference Groups will meet regularly to discuss the issues, and work closely with council officers.

They’ll concentrate on parks, waste, transport, and environmental education.

The council wants to hear from people of all backgrounds, and particularly young people.

Police say there’s no evidence of suspicious circumstances after a woman’s body was pulled from the Thames in Kingston.

Emergency crews were called at around 8 yesterday morning to Canbury Gardens.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Andy Murray is setting his sights on Wimbledon this year, and is sacrificing other tournaments for it

He’ll forego the French Open and all clay-court games.

The two-time champion currently has a metal hip after a long-term injury, and clay aggravates his condition.

He says that he won’t stop playing completely, however, and will make some appearances.

We’re being warned to make sure that cigarettes are extinguished and disposed of properly, after a flat fire in Barnes

Crews were called yesterday morning to Merthyr Terrace, where they needed to rescue a woman from the blaze.

Part of a five-roomed flat was damaged.

A spokesperson says it’s “absolutely vital” that cigarettes are completely out when they’re disposed of.

"The Power of the Dog" has become the big winner at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards

It secured four trophies including best film, best director, and best actor for star Benedict Cumberbatch.

Meanwhile Olivia Colman got best actress for another Netflix movie, "The Lost Daughter".

"Drive My Car", "Passing" and "The Souvenir Part Two" took home two awards each.

A Youth Zone to support young people working, studying or living in Kingston has opened its doors

They can drop in for a chat or take part in classes or workshops on mindfulness and coping with stress.

The service is available at Ancient House in the Market Place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3 to 7pm.

It’s being run by Richmond Borough Mind and no referrals are needed.

CCTV pictures have been released after a fight on board a bus in Streatham

On Thursday, just after 4.40pm, police were called after two men boarded the 250 bus armed with fire pokers, and attacked a third.

They fled when they heard sirens approaching.

Anyone with information about the identity of those involved should call 101, giving the reference 5152/03FEB.

Two police officers have had to go to hospital after making separate arrests in London last night.

 One got a broken finger while arresting a suspect in Acton.

At the same time police in Croydon were pursuing a vehicle after it failed to stop - the driver of the Mercedes hit an officer who was on foot.

The policeman remains in hospital with serious injuries to his ankle and hip.

Serial killer Levi Bellfield has allegedly confessed to the notorious murders of mother and daughter Lin and Megan Russell 26 years ago.

Bellfield is currently serving life for killing Millie Dowler in Walton-on-Thames in 2002 along with Marsha McDonnell in Hampton in 2003 and Amelie Delagrange in Twickenham in 2004

Michael Stone's been convicted twice of murdering the Russell’s but has always said he's innocent.

Harlequins vs Sale Sharks at the Twickenham Stoop

It is round 15 in the Rugby Union Gallagher Premiership and hosts Harlequins welcome Sale Sharks to the Twickenham Stoop. This is the second time this season that these two teams have met; Sale coming out on top in their first encounter.

Quins will be hoping to reverse that result today, bolstered by the return of Louis Lynagh and Luke Northmore from the England training camp, but Sharks also see the return of some key players.

Starting on the bench for the visitors, Faf de Klerk returns after more than 3 months away with hip surgery and Manu Tuilagi is back from a hamstring injury.  Raffi Quirke and Bevan Rodd also return for the visitors from the England training camp.  Kick-off is at 1pm.

Police in New Malden are warning residents about a spate of burglaries in the area.

Officers have been undertaking house to house visits to speak with residents in particular hotspots.

These include Cambridge Avenue and The Groves.

They’re urging homeowners to keep valuables out of sight, store keys away from letterboxes and consider buying a safe.

Merton Council is voicing its concerns about Viridor’s plans to increase capacity at the Beddington Energy Plant.

If the application is approved, the authority says the amount of waste that can be treated there would increase by 10%.

This is in addition to the 15% increase to capacity approved by the Environment Agency only 12 months ago.

Merton Council says the increase is “unnecessary intensification of the facility that would see a rise in traffic congestion.”

We’ve contacted Viridor and The Environment Agency for comment.

Ziggy Stardust will return to Tolworth on Thursday, 50 years after David Bowie launched him at a pub there.

A number of events are being staged across SW London to mark the anniversary.

These include a silent disco at Waterloo Station.

Robin Hutchinson, from organisers Community Brain in Tolworth, says Thursday is just the beginning.

Spelthorne Borough Council is looking for professional tennis players.

It wants to create a community tennis programme that would run between April the 1st  and March the 23rd next year.

It will include a combination of free and chargeable weekly group sessions.

The Council will provide access to its outdoor courts but needs coaches to help deliver the programme.
