South Western Railways is consulting on whether or not to make permanent cuts made during the pandemic, which saw peak-time services halved, and off-peak trains reduced to one an hour. 

The operator says it’s trying to reduce congestion in the Wimbledon area. 

Rish-hour services via Leatherhead between London Waterloo and Guildford were also reduced by half.

Hope Virgo teamed up with MPs including former Chancellor John McDonnell to call for the scrapping of the BMI index.

 Police were called at 03:45hrs on Saturday, 21 August to reports of a disturbance in Clarence Street.

Officers attended and found the man with a stab injury to his chest.

He was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service where he was later pronounced dead.

His next of kin are yet to be informed. 

A 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at a south London police station.

Police believe two men were present at the time of the assault in a wooded area of the Common around midnight on Wednesday.

It's being treated as an isolated incident, but detectives say they're keeping an open mind.

The suspect, claiming to be a police officer, rang the victim explaining he was part of a financial investigation.

He was instructed to issue two cheques, with a total of £34k to the name Daniel Dinemoor, and leave them outside his front door.

The next day, the cheques were collected and £22,000 was taken out of the victims account.

The bank was alerted of the fraudulent transaction and cancelled the pending transaction of the remaining £12,000.

MP for Esher and Walton, Dominic Raab, is under increased pressure to resign - Labour says there has been an "unforgiveable failure of leadership" by the government.

Armed Forces Minister James Heappey says he doesn't know all the details - but he's defended his colleagues in general.

Council leader Mark Allison says he has been working closely with other Labour run London councils on their response to the crisis.

He says that Merton council has a history of opening its doors to refugees, as it did with Syria in 2015.

Mr Allison says “We stand ready to support and are awaiting guidance” on the Government’s resettlement programme.  

They’ll monitor the number of vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists using the road now that traffic levels are returning to pre-Covid levels. 

The cameras will also measure pollutants including nitrogen dioxide.

The Brigade was called to a blaze at a fast-food takeaway shop with flats above on Streatham High Road last night.

Part of the ground floor of a mid-terraced shop and part of the extraction system was damaged by fire. 

Ten people left the flats above before the Brigade arrived. 

There were no reports of any injuries.

Officers were called to Turks Pier just before midnight.

54 year old Paul Anthony Nielson was sentenced to five years and six months' and 50 days electronically monitored curfew.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab was on a family holiday as the Taliban swept through the country.

The flat was on 16th floor of a residential block on Bramlands Close and had started in the kitchen.

Six fires engines and around 40 firefighters attended the blaze which was bought under control by 4.15pm.

One man left the flat before the brigade arrived and he was treated at the scene.

Dhan Gurung is on his twelfth day of starvation, as part of a protest over pensions.

Calls are growing for the Prime Minister to meet the Gurkhas.

The Ministry of Defence say they “greatly value” the Gurkhas and “ensure they are supported with a generous pension and medical care during retirement in Nepal”.

Five were arrested and six injured during the brawl on July the 22nd.

The GMB Union is calling on the supermarket to prosecute whenever a colleague is abused or assaulted, and to install “adequate security”.

At the time, Asda said “We do not tolerate any form of violence or abuse towards colleagues or customers and we are working closely with the police in their enquiries".

67 year old Robert Foote was working as a voluntary marshal when he was killed at Brands Hatch in Kent at the end of July.

46 year old Philippa Copleston-Warren logged into an app linked to smart devices in the victim’s home.

She could see his new girlfriend via cameras installed in the property and even remotely spoke to her to tell her to “get out.”

Copleston-Warren pleaded guilty to a single count of disclosing private sexual photographs with intent to cause distress.

A judge at Isleworth Crown Court adjourned sentencing until October.

It’s current base at The Corner will close on Friday and it will relocate to a temporary site which should open in mid-September.

It’s hoped the library will then stay at the temporary site for up to 5 years.

Extensive redevelopment works will take place at The Corner, during this time.

Doctors and nurses at Epsom and St Helier hospitals have issued a warning to enthusiasts whether they are pros or amateurs. 

They’re urging boarders to always wear a helmet, pads, gloves and start learning on grass or carpet.  

The hospitals treated 800 fracture patients between May and July, with staff saying they don’t want board accidents to add to that figure.

53 year old trumpeter William Algar, known as Blaise, was discovered dead at his home in January last year. 

35 year old Ebrima Cham was killed in a "frenzied attack" at a flat in December 2019.

Emeka Dawuda-Wodu, Janayo Lucima, Zimele Dube, Simon Emmons, and Marc Harding have been jailed for between 3 and 31 years.

Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Tunstall said: “I would personally like to thank all those witnesses who gave evidence about the murders and subsequent confessions. They knew how violent this gang were and the defendant’s readiness to use the most extreme violence. Despite this, these witnesses still had the courage to come forward and tell the court what had happened. Some of the witnesses were drug takers, but they attended court and gave evidence. Justice often depends on the bravery of such people and I applaud their actions.

“The sentences passed down by the courts – especially in relation to the murder of Brim Cham – properly reflect the danger these men represent to society and the public can feel confident they will be off the streets for a very long time. I would like to praise the family of Brim Cham and the dignity they showed throughout these very difficult proceedings.”

The court heard Ebrima Cham was 35-years-old when he was murdered on December the 19th, 2019. He lived at various places around the Hounslow area.

Ebrima had developed a reputation for robbing other drug dealers and it is believed that one of these robberies led him into confrontation with Zimele Dube.

On the day of the murder, Cham was staying at a flat in Grove Road, Hounslow. After they found out he was at the address, Dube and Emmons and Dawuda-Woda got in contact with each other by phone and all three set off to the flat in a car that was being driven by a friend.

At around 11:15am all three went to the flat door and when no one answered they broke the door down and rushed in.

Ebrima was found a short while later lying on the kitchen floor, he had been repeatedly stabbed. Meanwhile the three assailants had returned to the car and were driven from the scene.

Police and paramedics attended the stabbing, but despite their efforts Ebrima was pronounced dead.

At a post mortem examination on Saturday, the 21^st of December it was discovered that Ebrima had been stabbed 11 times, but it was a deep wound to his chest that proved fatal.

The team of detectives investigating the murder located CCTV of the car used by Dube, Emmons and Dawuda-Woda.

Tasnime Akunjee, who is also a consultant at a firm with offices in Brentford and Hounslow, has since deleted the tweet.

It referenced the Thin Lizzy song, ‘The boys are back in town’.

The Solicitors’ Regulation Authority has confirmed it is looking into the online post.

The initial drive behind the three week long project came from residents who worked with Merton Council to bring their idea to life.

They’ve entered their 11th day of protesting over pensions.

There are calls for the government to meet the Gurkhas.

The Ministry of Defence says they “greatly value” the Gurkhas, and they’re “committed” to a “sustainable and fair” pension for them.

Complaints were made against Clarion by residents of Eastfields Estate earlier this year.

They claimed their homes had fallen into disrepair with mice infestations and severe damp problems. 

At the time, Merton Council grilled Clarion, with the housing association later issuing an apology. 

But the Government’s Regulator of Social Housing has now issued a statement. 

It says “whilst there were clearly individual repairs issues which required resolution, our investigation did not find evidence of systemic or organisational failure which indicates a breach of the consumer standards.”

It does however, go on to say that complaints about specific problems or disputes tenants have with their landlords usually fall within the remit of the Housing Ombudsman.

Cyber criminals target weaknesses in software and apps to attack personal devices and steal your identity.

One way to prevent this from happening is to ensure all software and apps are updated where possible.

The updates are especially designed to fix weaknesses and protect your personal data.

It’s been reported on a Facebook group that they can read animal microchips, but that’s being denied by police.

Animal chips only contain database numbers, which means that only vets can use them to identify animals.

Detectives say they’ve tested these devices and say they lack the ability to store information or read chips.

Spelthorne Police are investigating the reports, but say they could be chips from stolen goods placed on the bins to avoid further detection.

On Friday, police were made aware of the encampment at Three Kings Piece.

Police are investigating after it was found this weekend in the Wey Navigation, between the White Hart and Coxes Lock.

It’s thought there are a “concerning number” of groups using catapults.

The council says its facing a £2m funding gap and has appealed to ministers in Whitehall for help. 

Since 2015 Croydon council says its helped 5,000 children seeking asylum, in the UK. 

They have to visit the town centre to apply to the Home Office unit there, and many stay on. 

But the council says the government should be providing over £2m extra to support its vital services, and the shortfall could reach 7 million pounds by 2024. 

Today’s meeting will consider a range of possible cuts which would hit vulnerable young people.

Last Wednesday afternoon, a 33-year-old woman sustained an injury after being hit by an unknown projectile.

Then in the evening, a man had been shot in the thigh, but saw an air rifle poking out of a window.

The 12-year-old had entered via the back of the house, which was insecure, and was “remorseful of his actions”.

Neither victim needed medical attention.

23-year-old Patrick Flanagan from Ireland says the staff were “very apologetic”, but he was given “an oversized airport wheelchair”, a claim form, and “sent on his way”.

Patrick says “my chair is my independence” and the substitute is “degrading”.

A Heathrow spokesperson says they’re “sorry” and are working with the airline and origin airport.

They’ll also be in touch with Patrick regarding his return trip.

Abby Johnson, Charlotte Irving and Kat Cordiner are setting off in early December aboard a 23-foot long rowing boat.

They’re raising funds for three cancer charities including the Royal Marsden.

Kat is herself battling cancer and she says this challenge is a part of her coping mechanism.

53 year old Tony Mumford died a week after falling from an e-scooter in Heath Road on July the 15th.

He’d run a repair shop called Toe-Knees in Church Street for over 15 years.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.  

The council took part in “No Mow May” earlier this year, which meant stopping lawnmowing so wildflowers could bloom.

The authority says the initiative was such a success, it will continue in areas including Tooting Common.

The grass will next be cut and collected in the autumn.  

It comes as a part of a plan to install a new outdoor gym at Heathfield Recreational ground.

The recreational Ground will be running one hour long personal training sessions to promote the outdoor fitness area.

The sessions will run from Tuesday August 24th to Saturday 28th August.

They’ll paddle from Old Windsor to Kingston, starting at 7am on the 4th of September.

Officers were involved in a brief chase with the suspect from Edenvale Park to Thirsk Road on Friday evening.

Later on, police searched his home address and found a large amount of forged £50 notes.

He was further arrested for counterfeit currency.

They will aim to restore the green space to its “former glory”, as well as refurbish buildings and improve access throughout the park.

The park’s nature trail through the woodland will be extended and the lake will be desilted and repaired.

The revamp is costing £5 million.

Officers were called at 4:11am yesterday morning where the found two men with head injuries, one man was taken to hospital.

It’s believed the two victims were assaulted by up to five suspects.

There have been no arrests so far and enquires are ongoing.
