Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to the house fire on Collingwood Road in Sutton. The first fire crews on scene were faced with an intense blaze throughout the whole of the ground floor.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the mid-terrace house and brought four young children out of the property. They were given immediate CPR by firefighters at the scene, who continued to administer treatment to assist London Ambulance Service crews on arrival.

All four children, two three-year-old boys and two four-year-old boys, were removed to hospital where, tragically and despite the efforts of all involved, they were pronounced deceased. 

The Brigade was called at 1855 and the fire was under control by 8.36pm. 

Firefighters from Sutton, Mitcham, Wimbledon, New Malden and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.

Deputy Leaders for the London Borough of Sutton, Councillor Jayne McCoy and Councillor Manuel Abellan said; 

“We are truly saddened by this awful news and our sympathy and condolences go out to the friends and family of these four young children who have tragically lost their lives.

27 year old Shaan Mir was sentenced today following the death of 49 year old Matthew Tester, also known as Tik, in Walton.

Mir must serve at least ten years of his sentence in prison and the remaining time on license.

28 year old Liam Connaughton has been handed two years and four months.

He defrauded over £100,000 from his workplace at a credit management company over 2 years by creating 123 false invoices.

He also diverted payments to his own accounts.

Questions were raised following a number of irregularities with the work Connaughton was carrying out.

30-year-old Stephen Keane took sunglasses, a knife, a Superdry jacket, and four bags for life in November.

Police looked at CCTV and found that it was Keane who stole the items.

He was arrested in Hounslow Town Centre around a week later, and was wearing the stolen jacket at the time.

Officers found it yesterday at the A3 in Cobham.
