It's understood Heathrow based British Airways owner I-A-G is ending its takeover of Air Europa - because of regulators concerns about significantly reducing competition.

The 420 million-pound deal was designed to help the group's Madrid hub compete more effectively against its European rivals.

The firm's chief executive says it's now assessing whether there are alternative options for a possible tie-up.

Five of this weekend’s six top-flight football matches have had to be called off due to covid cases among players from different teams

Covid has also hit Football League clubs.

Nineteen games have now been called off.

The postponements follow the EFL moving to a 'red protocol' on Friday in which all 72 clubs are now required to test players for Covid every day.

more than half of the games in the Championship, Leagues One and Two have been postponed.

They include QPR’s home match versus Swansea and AFC Wimbledon against Portsmouth in League One at Plough Lane.

Four people have died, and a fifth person is injured following five separate crashes on roads in London over a 24-hour period

They include a 41-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle in Southall in the early hours of this morning.

He was found in West Avenue and officers believe he was hit by a vehicle which did not stop.

 Police believe another of the deaths was hit-and-run and urgent enquiries are underway.

Another COVID vaccination clinic is opening in Richmond on Monday.

Based at Richmond Adult Community College, it’s available to anyone over the age of 12. 

No appointments are needed, but the council says, as seen elsewhere in the country, queues maybe long.

First and second doses of the Pfizer vaccines will be on offer, and booster jabs for those eligible.

There’s possible plans to increase Piccadilly Line services to Heathrow by sixty per cent.

 People living in the area aren’t happy with the news.

They’ve raised concerns about the impact this could have on emissions reduction at Heathrow in the years ahead.

TfL has also proposed to charge a new premium fare on Piccadilly Line journeys from central London to Heathrow underground stations.

It means journeys from Heathrow to stations within Zone 1 will see Peak prices implemented all day, rather than just in morning and evening rush hours.

The Government will review the proposals prior in January ahead of a new funding agreement deadline on 4 February.

We're being told to expect severe disruption on London's Tube services as drivers go on a 24-hour strike this weekend in a dispute over rosters.

 The Northern and Piccadilly as well as the Central, Jubilee and Victoria lines are all affected today, through to Sunday morning.

Last night, there was also a separate eight-hour walkout affecting overnight services on two lines.

The Mayor of Kingston is calling for donations of used and unwanted tech devices.

 Councillor Sushila Abraham wants old mobile phones, tablets, laptops and accessories such as headphones.

All items donated will be recycled and raise money for the Mayor’s Charitable Trust.

 She's being questioned on suspicion of child neglect.

Police say four boys aged 3 and 4 were alone in the property when the fire started.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admits he could be forced into the "crazy" situation of starting two midfielders sooner than he would like for Sunday's Premier League match at Wolves.

Mateo Kovacic has returned to training having not played since October because of a hamstring strain and Covid-19.

While N'Golo Kante was back on the bench after knee trouble in Thursday's 1-1 draw with Everton.

Tuchel says it's an area they're very short in.

Police are investigating after a woman was shouted and spat at in Weybridge.

She was walking towards the Morrison’s just before 11.30am on Saturday when a man started verbally abusing her.

He then pushed her over onto a grass verge.

He’s described as white, with a dark jacket over a mustard yellow jumper and a checked Burberry scarf.

Anyone who was waiting in traffic nearby or has any information is asked to contact police on 101.

A man from Spelthorne has been handed a Criminal Behaviour Order after causing distress to residents in the area.













It was issued to 37 year old Richard Reilly after multiple reports of antisocial behaviour. 

The order prevents him from entering the borough until October 2023.

He is only allowed to pass through the borough via train or car, he mustn’t stop or get out, or if he is attending Staines Magistrates Court.

A second man has been arrested after a fatal stabbing outside a kebab shop in Kingston.

While formal identification awaits, he’s been named as 32-year-old Farhad Joseph Khalili from Richmond.

A 27-year-old was arrested nearby, and yesterday afternoon a teenager was arrested at an address in the Kingston area.

Chief Superintendent Lis Chapple says “people can expect to see an enhanced police presence in the area” during the investigation.

Rising Covid cases has left London fire and rescue with severe staff shortages.

According to the Fire Brigades Union in Norbiton, almost a third of fire engines have been out of action this week due to staff shortages.

As the Omicron variant takes hold, 141 firefighters have tested positive and 283 are self-isolating.

The Fire Brigades Union says this is seriously affecting the already low levels of fire and rescue staffing in the capital

Police investigating the murder of a man in Kingston have sealed off an additional crime scene in Surbiton.

Farhad Joseph Khalili was stabbed to death in Surbiton Road on Wednesday evening.

Officers are now looking at an area within a road called The Mall nearby. 

They say it could remain sealed off for the next few days.

A teenage girl has died following a collision in Epsom.

Emergency crews were called to East Street just after 7.30 this morning after a pedestrian was hit by a lorry.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reigate and Banstead has one of the highest coronavirus rates in the country.

It has a rate of 934 per 100,000 people, and Elmbridge isn’t far behind at 923.

The rate across Surrey is 765, which is around 200 more than the national average, which is 569.

Everyone over 18 is now eligible for a booster, and the council is urging everyone to get it.

London Fire Commissioner Andy Roe has spoken of his profound sadness after the tragic death of four children at a house fire in Sutton.

He said: “This is an incident that has left everyone numb with profound sadness. My thoughts are with the family and friends of the children, the whole local community and all those who will be affected by this fire. Fire crews arrived quickly and located the children inside the property.

"They were brought out of the house and given immediate emergency care. The welfare of our staff involved in this incident is very important to us and all of them will be offered counselling as a priority.”

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to the house fire on Collingwood Road in Sutton. The first fire crews on scene were faced with an intense blaze throughout the whole of the ground floor.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the mid-terrace house and brought four young children out of the property. They were given immediate CPR by firefighters at the scene, who continued to administer treatment to assist London Ambulance Service crews on arrival.

All four children, two three-year-old boys and two four-year-old boys, were removed to hospital where, tragically and despite the efforts of all involved, they were pronounced deceased. 

The Brigade was called at 1855 and the fire was under control by 8.36pm. 

Firefighters from Sutton, Mitcham, Wimbledon, New Malden and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.

Sutton Council issues statement after four children die in a house fire in Collingwood Road

Deputy Leaders for the London Borough of Sutton, Councillor Jayne McCoy and Councillor Manuel Abellan said; 

“We are truly saddened by this awful news and our sympathy and condolences go out to the friends and family of these four young children who have tragically lost their lives. 

“As a Council, we are supporting the emergency services and specifically want to thank first responders for their work at this hugely difficult time. Our community is grieving today and we stand with them. We are working to help those who have been impacted access the relevant support.

“The Council is working with all of the partner agencies that have supported the family, to assist with the ongoing investigation into this tragedy. In the light of the recent police statement, we cannot comment in more detail at this stage.”

A man has been charged with the murder of his father in Hounslow

25-year-old Mateusz Staszczyk will appear in court today, accused of the killing of 48-year-old Jacek.

Police launched an investigation on Monday after the man was found with stab wounds at a home on Chatsworth Crescent.

Chiswick House and Gardens Trust has been awarded a government grant

Nearly £110,000 will go to the trust as part of a £4.3millon boost for 34 heritage organisations across London.

Its to help keep Chiswick House and Gardens financially afloat and ensure they can open in Spring next year.

Altogether, nearly 140 sites in England will benefit from this “Christmas thanks” from the government’s Culture Recovery Fund.

Data for Kingston, St Helier, St George’s, Epsom and Croydon Hospitals show that 97% of covid patients are not fully vaccinated

Figures show that having two doses plus the booster meant people were eight times less likely to get seriously ill with Covid-19.

It come as the UK recorded a record breaking 88-thousand news coronavirus cases within 24 hours yesterday.

Its believed every person infected with Omicron is passing it on to between three and five others on average.

An investigation is underway after four young children, all believed to be related to each other, died in a house fire in Sutton

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 7 o'clock yesterday evening on Collingwood Road in Sutton.

8 engines and 60 fire fighters spent an hour and a half putting the flames out.

The firefighters involved will be offered counselling and the family is being provided with special support.

No arrests have been made and the cause is under investigation.

The Premier League says it will continue to judge postponements on a case-by-case basis, despite more games being called-off due to coronavirus.

Tonight's match between Leicester and Tottenham, as well as Manchester United against Brighton on Saturday, are the latest to go.

Five topflight fixtures have been called-off since the new Omicron variant was identified in the UK.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank wants the league to take a break this weekend.

11,000 emergency food supplies have been provided by Wandsworth’s Foodbanks in the last year.

This October was also 15% busier than last October. 

Dan Frith is manager at Wandsworth Foodbank, which runs seven sites. 

He explains why this time of year is always tougher.

The Dons Local Action Group have been praised as “Covid Champions” by the Wimbledon MP.

Stephen Hammond says he asked residents to nominate those who have made a “real difference” during the pandemic.

He says that “many” people came forward to name the group, who organise food banks and laptops for children without access to online learning.

The group says “we’re lucky to have all your support” and “a massive thank you to everyone who thought of us”.

A new report has revealed the effect of the Covid pandemic on Croydon.

The document has come from the borough’s director of public health, Rachel Flowers.

It highlights significant job losses, a reliance on state-funded benefits, and an increase in children receiving free school meals.

It also revealed an increased risk of infection due to people saying they couldn’t socially distance in their place of employment.

Heathrow's been allowed to increase charges by more than 50% from January.

The cap on the airport's price per passenger next year will be £30.19, it's currently £19.60.

Charges are paid by airlines but are generally passed onto passengers in air fares.

A house has been destroyed by fire in Hampton.

The brigade were called to reports of a blaze on Jonquil Gardens at 14:15pm this afternoon.

The first floor and part of the roof was damaged. 

One man left the property before the Brigade arrived and was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A man from Weybridge has been jailed for 15 years after being found guilty of manslaughter.













27 year old Shaan Mir was sentenced today following the death of 49 year old Matthew Tester, also known as Tik, in Walton.

Police were called to reports of two men hit by a car after an argument in a car park on Church Street back in April.

Matthew Tester was pronounced dead at the scene and the second man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Mir must serve at least ten years of his sentence in prison and the remaining time on license.

People with wood burners in Richmond are being urged to check they comply with current rules.

Wood burning stoves and coal fires are the single largest source of the pollutant ‘PM2.5’ in the UK.

The World Health Organisation has identified it as the most serious air pollutant for human health.

Richmond Council says it would prefer people didn’t buy wood burners at all, but if they do, they need to check the DEFRA rules.

Council tax is due to rise in London to fund TfL.

Mayor Sadiq Khan intends to increase his share of tax by £20 a year for the next three years.

The operator is required to be self-sufficient by April 2023, and generate at least £500m a year more in income.

Sadiq Khan says the government is “still refusing to properly fund TfL” and is “holding London to ransom”.

Richmond Park Lib Dem MP Sarah Olney says “this political row is now unfairly hitting the pockets of ordinary Londoners”.

Six people have been rescued from a fire on the fourth floor of a block of flats in Mitcham.

The brigade were called just before 1am this morning to Talbot Close, where they found a number of people gathered outside the block.

The residents had placed a damp towel under the door to stop the smoke getting in.

It’s believed to have been started by an electrical fault in laptop on a bed.

A 25-metre cordon and hazmat suits have been needed in order to clear a fly-tip in Laleham

Yesterday, the council were made aware of the illegal dumping near the Camping Club.

Passers-by had reported itchy eyes, with the contents likely to be fertiliser or animal feed.

Veolia have been working “throughout the night” to clear the waste.

Riding for the Disabled has returned to Park Lane Stables in Teddington

They were forced by the landlord to leave the site in July, despite a successful crowdfunding campaign.

They’ve now purchased the site after a “complex legal process”.

The charity will refurbish the site, and will resume riding and carriage driving in Bushy Park in the new year.

There are calls for ministers to do more to encourage drivers to buy an electric car

The government's cut grants for these vehicles for the second time this year - despite a concerted push to get more people to make the switch.

Some cities, like London, are penalising motorists who don't drive cars with low emissions, with the expansion of the ULEZ to the north and south circular.

Over 1,500 people have been arrested during a 16-day crackdown on domestic abuse in London

Among the organisations they teamed up with was the anti-stalking charity Suzy Lamplugh Trust, which was set up after the disappearance of the estate agent in Fulham.

Detective Superintendent Matt Pitch says “Domestic abuse is still an under-reported and largely hidden crime”.

They’re encouraging anyone affected to come forward and seek help from them and charities.

£60,000 of funding has been cut from Battersea Arts Centre

The decision was approved at a council meeting last night in order to improve the cultural offering in other parts of the borough.

The council also says it wants to find “additional funding streams” to support it.

The move has been criticised as it’s a “deeply difficult time for the organisation”.

The home of Chelsea FC is due to open as a mass Covid vaccination centre.

Stamford Bridge will become a hub as will Wembley Stadium in North London.

Twickenham Rugby Stadium was one of the sporting venues that was opened up for those seeking vaccinations earlier in the year.

36 tonnes of leaves have been cleared from Merton’s streets in one week.

The council says its teams have been “incredibly busy” trying to make pavements safer and clear gutters. 

146 tonnes of leaves have been collected in the last 5 weeks, that’s a little more than the average weight of a Blue Whale. 

There are over 220,000 street trees in Merton.

A union's warning Parliament will become a "hotbed of infection" unless significant steps are taken to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Eight MPs have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, including Lib Dem Leader and Kingston and Surbiton MP, Sir Ed Davey. 

It means they were prevented from voting on the government's Plan B restrictions. 

The Prospect Union wants politicians to take and record daily lateral flow tests.

A new free café in New Malden is trying to tackle loneliness in the town.

Square One, at the Fountain Roundabout, currently opens every Saturday between 12 and 4pm. 

The food offered is surplus from supermarkets and the café runs with help from charitable donations as well as the council. 

Founder, Tony Williams, says loneliness can affect anyone of any age.

A murder investigation has been launched in Hounslow after a man was found dead at a house.



Police were called to Chatsworth Crescent just after 5pm on Monday.

Officers found a 48-year-old man with stab wounds. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

While formal identification has not taken place, officers are confident that the deceased is Jacek Staszczyk, and the Met Police has published the photo above.

A man from Walton has been jailed after pleading guilty to fraud.

28 year old Liam Connaughton has been handed two years and four months.

He defrauded over £100,000 from his workplace at a credit management company over 2 years by creating 123 false invoices.

He also diverted payments to his own accounts.

Questions were raised following a number of irregularities with the work Connaughton was carrying out.

A man has been jailed after stealing £600 worth of goods from two cars in Isleworth.

30-year-old Stephen Keane took sunglasses, a knife, a Superdry jacket, and four bags for life in November.

Police looked at CCTV and found that it was Keane who stole the items.

He was arrested in Hounslow Town Centre around a week later, and was wearing the stolen jacket at the time.

Anti-vaxxers have targeted people queuing for booster jabs at a churchyard in Chelsea.

The Evening Standard reports that they were “intimidating people in the queue”, including mothers with children.

Nobody left the queue on the basis of the protests.

The area’s MP Greg Hands says “this behaviour is not welcome in Chelsea.”

Officers investigating a stabbing in Epsom on Sunday have arrested a 19 year old man on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police were called to Victoria Place shortly after 4:15am following reports that a man had been seriously assaulted.

A 22-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Enquiries are ongoing.

A man suspected of being a key figure in a multi-million pound money laundering network has been arrested

The 46-year-old is alleged to have organised travel arrangements for at least 26 couriers, who moved an estimated £100m.

Two are already serving jail terms after being stopped at Heathrow with millions of pounds in suitcases.

21 additional suspected couriers have been interviewed by the National Crime Agency.

Surrey Fire and Rescue service is in “much better shape” than it was two years ago, but is still showing many problems

The inspector has rated it as “requires improvement”.

However, its becoming “more effective and efficient” and is “approaching the challenge positively”.

Surrey’s Chief Fire Officer, Steve Owen-Hughes says he’s “extremely proud of the hard work happening within our service”.

A Conservative former mayoral candidate has quit a senior role in the London Assembly after he was accused of breaking Covid regulations

Shaun Bailey, who lost to Sadiq Khan in May, has been pictured at what was reported to be a Christmas party during lockdown last year.

The Daily Mirror, which published the photo, says the event was held at the Conservative Party's headquarters in Westminster last December.

Covid passes are becoming mandatory in nightclubs and big events in England today despite a bigger rebellion than expected from Tory backbenchers

Around 100 MPs voted against Plan B coronavirus measures, including Epsom MP Chris Grayling, Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond, and Runnymede MP Dr Ben Spencer.

However, the restrictions were approved due to Labour's backing.

Traffic cameras are being installed outside two “school streets” in Tooting

The initiative sees roads around school entrances closed to drivers during drop off and pick up times. 

ANPR cameras, which recognise vehicle number plates, will begin operating near St Anselm’s and Penwortham Schools next term. 

Unexempt drivers who enter the school streets during the hours of operation face receiving a penalty charge notice.

The Environment Secretary says he’s “sceptical” about the pilot traffic “experiment” taking place in Bushy Park

George Eustice made the comments in an email to a resident which Radio Jackie has permission to share.  

In it, he says closing off roads to traffic has “increased congestion and associated problems around surrounding roads.”  

Mr Eustice, who lives in the vicinity of Bushy Park, goes on to say; “I would prefer to see the park re-opened.”

But he concedes the decision is one for managers, The Royal Parks. 

A number of roads in Richmond and Bushy Parks have been closed off to through traffic as part of a traffic calming trial.  

A Royal Parks spokesperson has told us;

“Parks such as Bushy Park play a crucial role in boosting the physical and mental wellbeing of city dwellers who are looking to escape the hustle and bustle for a breath of fresh air, and to boost their physical and mental wellbeing by enjoying the wonderful wildlife and landscapes. Our charity’s role is to protect and preserve London’s 8 Royal Parks, which includes Bushy Park’s 1000 acres of historic parkland. Bushy Park provides a valuable, natural landscape which is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest status and we aim to ensure the park is resilient in the face of increasing pressures from climate change. By reducing cut-through motor traffic we will help protect this precious environment and we will enable increasing numbers of visitors to enjoy engaging in the natural environment and walking and cycling in the parks safely and peacefully, now and into the future.”

There are calls for TfL to work “flat out” to finish engineering work to the Northern Line.

Wandsworth Council says the situation must be kept under “close scrutiny” due to the impact on “thousands of passengers.

A capacity upgrade is underway at Bank station, which is due to finish in May.

The operator will be running more trains on the Charing Cross branch, and an extra route from Oval to Finsbury Square.

Manolo Santana, the first Spaniard to win Wimbledon, has died at the age of 83.

He won the title in 1966, one of his four grand slam titles.

Rafael Nadal says he was a “point of reference, a friend and a person very close to everyone”.

Santana picked up the racket after bringing a meal to his brother at a tennis club, and through his career, fuelled Spanish interest in the sport.

Leader of the Liberal Democrats and MP for Kingston and Surbiton, Ed Davey, has tested positive for covid.

Davey confirmed earlier on Twitter that he had gone into isolation after developing symptoms  yesterday and later receiving a positive PCR test result today.

Two men who bought a National Lottery scratch card using stolen debit card details have each been jailed for 18 months.

The pair tried to claim the £4million jackpot after purchasing the winning ticket in Clapham in 2019.

Jon Watson and Mark Goodram were found out when claiming the prize, as they revealed they did not have a bank account.

They admitted fraud when appearing in court.

People across Epsom and Ewell who don’t need their Winter Fuel Allowance, are being asked to donate it instead.

Those born on or before September 1955 could receive between £100 and £300 from the government to help pay their heating bills. 

But Lisa Davis, the CEO of Citizens Advice Epsom and Ewell says some need the payment more than others. 

Project Wenceslas, organised by Ewell Rotary Club, is into its fifth year.

Cases of the Omicron variant have been confirmed in Mole Valley.

The district covers towns including Leatherhead and Ashtead. 

The council is advising residents to take a Lateral Flow Test before mixing with friends or family. 

It’s expected most MPs will back  Plan B measures later but it's thought around 75 will vote against them.

A teenage girl has been approached by a suspicious man in Ewell.

The victim was walking from the Ruxley Lane bus stop near Pams Way on Sunday at around 6pm.

The suspect, who was wearing a long, dark trench coat, grabbed her arm and enquired where she was going.

She managed to get away from him uninjured.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.

A new art trail has launched in Surbiton town centre.

The idea is to bring areas of the town that are underappreciated, back to life.

Stephen Young is the trail’s director. 

He says it’s already having a big impact on Surbiton.

Kingston Council is building a new care home for people with dementia in Surbiton.

The number of residents living with the condition in the borough is expected to rise from around 1,500 to more than 2,100 by 2027.

Anavo Group will operate the 80-room home in Brown’s Road: the company already runs ten specialist care homes across the UK.

The site is due to open next year.

A landlord in Twickenham has been fined £60,000.


Richmond Council took the landlord to court after they failed to make improvements to the flat in question.  

Inspections found the ceiling at the property had collapsed due to damp plaster. 

The landlord also had an outstanding previous improvement notice for another flat in the same building.

Richmond Council has applied for a rent repayment order to claim back the housing allowance paid out over the past year.

The MP for Chelsea and Westminster has shown his approval as some of the world biggest record labels set out to tackle climate change.

Greg Hands has tweeted its “Music to my ears” as Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group signed a new pact.

The Music Climate Pact aims to achieve a 50 per cent reduction of greenhouse gases by 2030 and to decarbonise by 2050.

The industry plans to sign up to the Science Based Targets Initiative or join the UN’s Race to Zero programme by February 2022.

Hampton Court Palace is throwing open its famous courtyard to night time visitors for the first time.

“Palace of Stardust” is an illuminated light trail inspired by the site’s famous astronomical clock.

A teenage girl was approached by a suspicious man in Epsom last Sunday but managed to run away uninjured.

Watford manager Claudio Ranieri expects more Premier League matches to be postponed because of a rise in coronavirus cases.

 Tonight's game at Brentford has been called-off following an outbreak at their opponents Manchester United.

Top-flight clubs have reintroduced emergency measures after a record number of positive tests over a seven day period.

Ranieri hopes it doesn't lead to fixtures being played behind closed doors again.

British Airways has confirmed it's launching a short-haul subsidiary at Gatwick Airport.

The airline, whose main hub is at Heathrow, will operate under the firm's name but will exist as an "entirely separate entity."

It'll start flying in March next year.

BA's short-haul flights have been suspended from the West Sussex airport since the start of the pandemic.

People living in Merton now have a new way to report fly-tipping.

The Fix My Street website is already used by a number of other authorities across London.

It allows residents to report the precise location of a fly-tip on a map so the council can log it and deal with it. 

It’s hoped other issues such as dog fouling and graffiti will also be able to be reported via the website in due course.

Firefighters have rescued a woman from a fire in Clapham

Part of a flat on the 10th and 11th floors of a block in St Luke’s Avenue caught light last night. 

The woman managed to make it on to the balcony before being brought to safety. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A man has been jailed after stabbing a man over money in Isleworth

Police were called to 35-year-old James Burton’s home and found a victim with a head injury.

It took 24 hours to find Burton, and the knife was found on a roof around a week later.

He’s been sentenced to six years behind bars.

Brentford and Manchester United's Premier League clash has been postponed with both clubs battling against Covid-19

A number of United players and staff tested positive on Sunday, with the game being called off late last night.

Speaking yesterday, Brentford boss Thomas Frank thought their opponents would be able to cope - saying his team have issues of their own.

Fully-vaccinated close contacts of anyone who tests positive for coronavirus will now have to do a daily lateral flow test

It's hoped checking every day for seven days will limit the spread of the Omicron variant.

But yesterday, online supplies of test kits ran out because of a massive spike in demand.

A man has been jailed after posting videos of himself online performing indecent acts on the tube

37-year-old Nikki Darke from Forest Gate was found to be committing them on the Piccadilly line between February and July this year.

He was taken into custody in September after plain clothes officers saw him.

It was also found he was using his platform to obtain indecent images of children.

He’s been sentenced to 16 months in prison.

An Insulate Britain protester in prison in Ashford has ended her hunger strike after 26 days.

44-year-old Emma Smart from Weymouth received a letter from her MP, Sir Richard Drax to request a meeting at HMP Bronzefield.

It’s likely to happen within “a couple of weeks”.

Emma says she will “continue to do all that I can to pressure the government”.

A second IB supporter has also ended his hunger strike.

Manchester United are in talks with the Premier League about whether tomorrow's game at Brentford should go ahead

United have closed down operations at their training ground for 24 hours after a number of players and staff tested positive for coronavirus.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank was confident the match would go ahead.

But he thought the rules over postponements could be clearer.

Hounslow Council has been planting Christmas trees across the borough.

It has planted more than 20 real firs, spruces and pine trees in a move to make Hounslow greener and more sustainable.

It’s hoped the trees will become a focal point throughout the year, with residents being encouraged to get involved in nurturing them.

This week residents are being invited to come along and decorate their real community tree ready for Christmas.

Police are investigating two incidents of hate crime in New Malden.

Two shops were graffitied with offensive language overnight. 

Cafe Mok and New Malden Barbers sit just beside Waitrose in the High Street.

Anyone with information or CCTV is asked to come forward to Kingston Police on 101.

Manchester United's Premier League game at Brentford tomorrow is in doubt following a Covid-19 outbreak at the Old Trafford club.

Discussions are underway with top flight officials after United closed down their training ground for 24 hours.

There have also been cases reported at Aston Villa and Tottenham.

Brighton boss Graham Potter says they've had three or four positive tests.

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire at Hatton Cross Underground station this lunchtime.

They responded to reports of smoke coming from the track just before midday.

Firefighters secured the scene to isolate the power and make it safe.

The incident was over within 15 minutes. 

There were no reports of any injuries.

A charity which addresses the problems of children at risk of criminal exploitation has received a financial boost.

Surrey’s Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend has handed Catch 22’s “Music to My Ears” project £100,000. 

Trained adults are on hand to support young people with mental health or emotional welfare problems.

Lisa explains the strength of the programme which uses music, film and photography to cut the cycle of repeat offending.

Police are hunting for three suspects after a property in Epsom was burgled last Wednesday.

Officers were called to a house in Long Walk after a large amount of cash and an Ipad was stolen between 1pm-7pm. 

The three suspects are described as men wearing dark hoodies, two wearing grey joggers and one wearing black joggers.

It is believed that the suspects were initially in a white van and then walked to the property. 

Anyone with information or CCTV in the area are urged to contact police on 101.

A plant-based food start-up has won a contract to supply both Chelsea FC and the Wimbledon championship.

Herblabism supplied COP26 with 7,500 mushroom burgers and 6,000 plant-based sausages.

The company aims to make the entire supply chain as green as possible, from farming to distribution.

A fire in Streatham is believed to have been caused by a candle.

Firefighters were called to Westcote Road on Saturday afternoon after receiving 11 999 calls about the blaze.

Two women were treated on scene by paramedics.

London Fire Brigade are reminding people never to leave candles unattended and to switch to LED alternatives for a safer option.

Richmond Council says its high Covid rate is largely driven by children in primary and secondary schools.

As of Thursday, the borough continued to have the highest rate in London at 668.7 per 100,000 population.

This is well above the London average of 451.7 per 100,000.

The council says parents need to make sure their children are following the rules, regularly testing and self-isolating if necessary.

The Trust has launched its Christmas toy appeal and is inviting people to select a gift from its Amazon Wish List.

Last year, nearly 100 toys, games and gifts of arts and crafts were handed out on children’s wards across the hospitals.

One person was treated on scene after a bus crash in Morden, but both drivers are okay

Emergency crews were called just after 7 this morning after the 413 reversed into a vehicle and the central reservation.

The bus stand and railing have both been damaged.

The person received only minor injuries.

A man from Fulham has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for multiple counts of sexual attack, GBH and false imprisonment

29-year-old Abdul Awil was arrested after his victim came forward following a four-day ordeal.

Detective Constable Gemma Harkin says that he “at every turn, denied responsibility for his actions”.

She says the Met has specially trained officers who work with partner organisations to provide the right support, and you shouldn’t “suffer in silence”.

Anyone who takes privately-owned e-scooters and e-unicycles on to London's transport network will be refused access from today

They've been banned due to safety concerns, following recent fires on the capital's services.

It means you won't be allowed on the tube, buses, Overground, Croydon Tramlink and DLR if you're carrying one, even if they're folded up.

Both drivers are okay, after the incident this morning.

Princess Alice Hospice is going to recycle Christmas trees on behalf of Elmbridge Borough Council this year.

The charity will collect them after the festivities and make sure they are “recycled responsibly.”

Princess Alice says it understands many councils have been struggling to collect garden waste during the pandemic.   

Trees across a number of postcodes will be collected by the 8th of January if the homeowner has registered.

A new plan designed to help tackle flooding in Hounslow has been approved by the council.

It will help identify flooding hot-spots as well as influence future council policies such as drainage maintenance.

The authority will also look at how to adapt to the long-term impact on services and infrastructure associated with climate change. 

The summer’s downpours left some homes and buildings flooded leading to considerable expense.

The UK’s oldest hospice is celebrating its 130th anniversary.

Royal Trinity at Clapham Common was established in 1891 by a member of the Hoare banking family. 

Today, 28 patients are cared for at any one time at the site, but more than 700 are supported in their own homes.

A man was found stabbed in Epson this morning.

Police and ambulance services arrived at the scene after 4.15 am where the 22-year-old male victim was taken to hospital.

Detectives cornered off the area for several hours while forensic teams carried out checks.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

World famous playwright Noel Coward is to be celebrated on stage in Twickenham 122 years after his birth.

The actor, composer and lyricist was born in Teddington on December the 16th 1899.

Residents are being invited to join the Richmond Shakespeare Society to watch Cowell’s hit play Hay Fever as well as raise a glass to him. 

It’s running until next Saturday at the Mary Wallace Theatre.

More than 40% of people surveyed in Reigate and Banstead have not returned to the traditional five-day commute.

Reigate and Banstead Works commissioned the research to see how many people are still working from home.

Half of the 500 respondents reported their employers are open to ongoing flexible working.

More than 18 months on from the start of the pandemic, only a quarter of respondents, 27.2%, now commute five days a week.

90 cuddly “Mood Bears” have been delivered to St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey.


They’ll be given to the children and young patients, as well as the siblings and children of long-stay patients during the festive season.


The bears are all different colours, each representing a different emotion, such as yellow for happy and purple for silly.


Head of Nursing Hannah Spender says “this will be an incredibly opportunity to give a lasting gift to our children and young people”.

Police are appealing for information after a serious collision involving a motorcycle in Streatham.

Officers were called at just after 4.15 am on Friday morning to the collision on Streatham High Road.

The rider of the motorcycle, a 20 year old man was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made while police enquiries continue.
