An electric van is doing the rounds in Fulham to help small businesses stay afloat.

Provided by the council, the vehicle can be used by owners to run errands or make deliveries free of charge. 

It’s also helping the authority with its goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2030.  

Rebecca, from Becky Blooms, is one of the small businesses making use of the scheme.

People living in Chelsea are being encouraged to take part in a lockdown art project.

 'The Worst of Times, The Best of Times' will be an interactive display focusing on the books "that saved people's lives in 2020".

Submissions are being collected throughout August via the council's website.

The project will be hosted by Kensington Central Library in the Autumn.

It's been another excellent morning at the Olympics for Team GB.

 In the last half an hour, south-west London born Ethan Hayter and Matt Walls have won silver in the men's cycling madison.

Tom Daley's made history by becoming the first British diver to win four Olympic medals.

He took bronze in the 10-metre platform final in Tokyo.

And it was gold for Galal Yafai - who won the men's flyweight boxing final.

Yafai says it's a special moment.

We're now up to 61 medals.

The Surrey Environment Partnership is one of over 150 bodies calling for tougher ramifications for fly-tippers.

It says current sentences "do not always match the severity of the offence committed or fairly reflect the cost incurred".

It's asking the Sentencing Council to consider a number of amendments including community-based sentences.

The body also wants anyone convicted of a second fly-tipping offence to be jailed rather than handed another suspended sentence.

A man from Lambeth has been convicted after he filmed himself on social media with a knife in a north London nightclub.

23-year-old Abel Buafo pleaded guilty to numerous offences between 12 March 2020 and Thursday, 29 July.

The offences includes possession of a knife, possession of Class A and B drugs possession of criminal property and being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug.

He will be sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 17 September.

London Pride has been cancelled for a second year in a row due to coronavirus.

 The UK’s biggest LGBTQ pride festival usually takes place in the capital but was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

Organisers say this year’s event could not go ahead under current guidelines.

The event usually sees tens of thousands marching and celebrating through the streets of central London that are shut off to usual traffic.

Executive director Chris Joell-Deshields says 2022 will be the most inclusive yet.

Twickenham’s Lib Dem MP is accusing the Conservative party of “scaremongering” over proposed boundary changes.

Munira Wilson is rejecting plans that Whitton ward be moved into the Brentford and Isleworth constituency.

She says Whitton has no natural or historical links with Brentford and Isleworth, but it is intimately linked to Twickenham.

Parliamentary constituencies are reviewed periodically by the Boundary Commission for England.

They are sometimes altered to reflect a change in population.

A drug dealer has been sentenced to 4 years in prison at Kingston Crown Court.













35 year old Sukhpinder Sidhu was sentenced last week for possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Earlier this year he was stopped and searched after officers caught him dealing drugs in Yeading.

They found heroin, cocaine, cannabis and some tablets believed to be ecstasy in his rucksack, estimated to be at a street value of £10,000.

Three men have been arrested for burglary in Thornton Heath.

Officers were called to an address in the area where they found the three men hiding inside.

Police arrested them and charged them all with burglary.

They await to attend court.

The Post Office is to return to Brentford High Street, and people are being asked for their views on what they want.

It closed in December 2018, and the Barclays closed last month, leaving the town without a bank or post office.

Council Leader Steve Curran lives in the area, and says he knows how important it is to be able to access services through it.

There are calls for mental health needs to be better recognised by the justice system.

Richmond Park Lib Dem MP Sarah Olney says the system isn’t designed with them in mind, and they’re not always identified.

She adds that women and people from ethnic minority backgrounds may require a tailored approach.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: “We have received the letter from MP Sarah Olney and will respond in due course.”

The inquest into the death of Streatham terrorist Sudesh Amman has been hearing from his mother.

She says his last message to her on the day he died was "bye bye, I love you mummy".

The 20-year-old stabbed two people in south London last year - ten days after he'd been freed from jail.

Police investigating the murder of a teenager in Streatham have arrested a 19 year old woman.













17 year old Denardo Samuels-Brooks died from a stab injury on June the 10th in Prentis Road.

The woman arrested was detained on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on bail until next month.

Five people in total have been charged in connection with the stabbing.

Resident in Croydon are being urged to ensure their details are up to date on the electoral register.

Over the past week, Croydon Council has contacted all households to confirm their details of the annual voter registration canvass.

All councils are required to carry out an annual canvass by law to ensure it’s up-to-date, and to encourage those not registered, to do so.

This is an opportunity for residents to make sure they can vote in the council’s governance referendum which will be held on 7th October.

Covid in-patient numbers rose at West Middlesex Hospital in Isleworth last week.

The 25 people admitted were of all ages, and none had been vaccinated, apart from five “very elderly” patients. 

That number was up from 17 the week before. 

The details have been released by Brentford and Isleworth MP Ruth Cadbury. 

She met up with the hospital’s Director, Mark Titcomb, and is urging all eligible constituents to make sure they take the Covid vaccine.

Calls are continuing for the Transport Secretary to explain why countries are on their respective travel lists

Labour MP for Putney, Fleur Anderson, has written to Grant Shapps asking about the decisions for Canada, Pakistan and South Africa.

She says that “several constituents” have written to her about those countries, saying the statistics suggest they should be on other lists.

The government says they speak to the experts, and factors include the reliability of COVID data and vaccination rates.

Surrey’s new Police and Crime Commissioner wants help creating a dedicated service to support child victims of criminal exploitation

Up to £100,000 is being made available by Lisa Townsend’s office to an organisation in the county which can provide the necessary service.

Most exploitation involves the use of children by ‘county lines’ networks that distribute drugs from cities to towns and villages.

In the year to February, Surrey Police identified 206 young people at risk of exploitation, of which 14% were already experiencing it.

A doctor at a clinic in Clapham has died in a collision in North London

Emergency crews were called just before 9am on Wednesday to Holborn, after reports a cyclist had been hit by an HGV.

41-year-old Dr Marta Krawiec was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her parents say “Marta lived helping other people every day” and “she died on the way to her patients”.

The driver stopped at the scene and hasn’t been arrested.

The Waggy Walk is returning to Wimbledon Common in October after it was forced to go virtual during the pandemic

Money raised from the 4 or 7km stroll goes towards funding work done by the Wimbledon Guild.

The charity offers vulnerable people in Merton financial, practical and emotional support where needed.

The event on October the 2nd, is open to everyone, with or without a dog.

Six new cycle schemes are being set up across Wandsworth this month.

The pilot contraflows will launch next Friday in in residential, one-way streets.

They will incorporate new signage and road markings, including double yellow lines.

The council says the move is to allow cyclists to avoid busy junctions.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney won't join his team-mates in taking a knee before games during the new Premier League season.

He'll continue to make his own personal statement against racism and discrimination.

Toney's club says he has their full support.

The government's review of its traffic light system will also see India among four countries removed from the red list, allowing people to avoid hotel quarantine.

The Met Police has seized a record number of guns so far this year

Last week they ran a crackdown on firearms, which started with finding 30 shotgun shells hidden in a ceiling in Battersea.

Throughout the operation, eight guns, several zombie knives, and stolen vehicles were found.

Commissioner Cressida Dick says “the streets of London do not belong to those intent on violence, they belong to the public."

Work is underway on the creation of a new town square in New Malden.

The development, which includes a pocket park, will be situated at the Cocks Crescent tower block near the high street. 

The square is the first phase of the scheme and work on the wider development is due to commence in the summer of 2023. 

Design work is also starting on proposals to improve the Fountain Roundabout with a public consultation starting next month.

Chelsea Football Club has paid tribute to the son of former player Michael Ballack

18 year old Emilio died this morning in a quad bike accident near Lisbon in Portugal. 

In a statement, the club said;

“Everybody associated with Chelsea is shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Emilio Ballack at the terribly young age of 18. 

All our thoughts are with his father Michael and his family at this sad time.”

The inquest into a terrorist attack in Streatham is continuing today

Sudesh Amman stabbed two people in Streatham High Road before being shot dead by officers in February last year.

MI5 and police officers met on the 9th of January 2020, two weeks before his automatic release from prison. 

Jurors have been told one officer remarked an attack would be "when, not if."

A group of travellers who set up on Kew Green last night may be there for the next few days

Richmond Council says the group, which has around 20 caravans, is not willing to leave.

The authority now has to go through a legal process to obtain and enforce a Possession Order which could take a number of days. 

A High Court order earlier this year denied the Council’s request to extend a previous expedited injunction process.

This means it has to go via the courts each time.

A nine year old is running to raise money for the Wimbledon Dons Action Group

The Dons run a food bank and collect laptops and phones for children who need them for online schooling during the pandemic.

The area’s MP Siobhan McDonagh is among those who’s donated to his campaign, who says “Fabulous work Archie!”.

Covid has changed the future of weddings with many couples now looking to include charities in their big day

Hannah Brewer and her new husband Struan Mitchell are one such couple; they decided to have the Clink charity cater their wedding.

The Clink gives prisoners at sites like High Down in Sutton the chance to train in a kitchen.

The aim is to help them secure a job in the catering industry when they finish their sentence.

Hannah says she wanted her wedding day to be a way to give something back.

A man has died on Reigate Road in Epsom after a collision involving a skip lorry

Police were called to Reigate Road, near the car dealerships, just before 6 this morning.

The 40-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Guildford's Liam Heath has won a bronze medal in the men's kayak 200-metres final in Tokyo for Team GB

The 36-year-old defending Olympic champion clocked just over 35.2 seconds to finish third behind the winner, Hungary's Sandor Totka.

Heath trains at the Wey Kayak Club in Guildford, and has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Surrey.

St George’s in Tooting is to form a new hospital group with Epsom and St Helier

The Trusts say the aim of the group is to bolster the workforce, making teams larger and more resilient to change.

They will collaborate more closely on research, education and training.

The two Trusts will share a Chief Executive and Joint Chairman but will continue to have its own Board.

The MP for Putney has joined calls for an end to a controversial scheme to fight tax avoidance.

The loan charge aims to crack down on people who send their money to offshore accounts, then have it loaned to them in a way that’s not expected to be paid back.

However, Labour’s Fleur Anderson says “most people” facing the charge are “victims of mis-selling”, and were told the schemes were fully compliant.

HMRC says they must uphold the “fundamental principle” that individuals are responsible for their own tax affairs.

“Engines off!” is the message from Spelthorne Council.

It’s campaigning against car idling, and is speaking to businesses including the Eco Park on Charlton Lane about queuing customers.

The authority also has government funding to encourage taxi companies to take up electric vehicles.

Councillor Ian Beardsmore says it’s a “completely unnecessary and entirely preventable source of air pollution”.

More than 40,000 students could be offered places in a new scheme to replace the Europe-wide Erasmus student exchange scheme.

The Turing Scheme is named after scientist Alan Turing who was  known for his work at the National Physical laboratory in Teddington.

It’s not clear whether costs will be fully covered although the Department of Education says will enable work and travel abroad.

Its estimated 120 universities, schools and colleges have applied for a share of the £110 million to fund work and study placements abroad.

Alan Turing is also featured on the new £50 note and his team was behind the breaking of the Enigma code during World War 2.

A bus with a difference is making its way around Lambeth this summer.

Staff on the single decker are administering Covid tests as well as health advice.

The aim is that people don’t have to wander far from their homes in order to get vaccinated. 

The bus is visiting areas where vaccine uptake is at its lowest.

The victim of a fatal assault in Lambeth last July has been named whilst still awaiting formal identification of the body

Detectives have named the victim as Mauricio Nascimento, aged 44, who was also known as ‘Maurice’ and was from Croydon.

Police attended the body of the victim at 7am on Monday morning on the 12th of July in New Park Road after being alerted by paramedics.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information

Part of a split-level flat on the second floor of the building above the pub and half of the third floor was alight.

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters attended the blaze at the premises on Battersea Rise.

Road closures are currently in place and people are being urged to avoid the area. The cause of the fire is not currently known.

A singer-songwriter from Sutton has just released his debut album, despite being deaf in one ear.

James Vickery says he discovered his love of music when he had to get vocal coach lessons when he was young, and found singing helped him.

The R&B singer says to some extent, it actually allows him to “cheat”.

Electric vehicles are to be used by Kingston Council, which cost less a third to run than the current fleet.

.The authority has bought 13 electric vans, which it hopes will save them £46,000 and 25 tonnes of carbon emissions over the next three years.

The diesel vans it’s been using have reached the end of their contract.

Councillor Stephanie Archer says they want to “lead the way” with “sustainable and environmentally friendly transport”.

Katie Snowden, who trained at Tooting Athletics Track, has been knocked out of the women’s 1500m at the Olympics.


During the third heat, she ran a personal best time, but has been knocked out at the semi-finals.

MP Dr Rosena Allin-Khan says it was a “great run” and she “made Tooting proud”.

Lawyers representing the families of five people killed in the Croydon tram crash want a fresh inquest

Last month, jurors decided the deaths of seven victims were accidental.

The driver was going at three times the speed limit when it overturned on a sharp bend in 2016.

The relatives believe it should be deemed 'unlawful killing'.

Croydon Council is one of the authorities urging Chancellor Rishi Sunak to extend Furlough

The scheme is due to end on the 30th of September with the share of costs businesses have to pay doubling to 20% this month.

13,000 Croydon residents were thought to have been furloughed at the end of June.

46,000 households in the borough are currently reliant on Universal Credit; an increase of almost 20,000 on this time last year.

A lack of “qualified” HGV drivers means recycling collections at some tower blocks in Wandsworth could be late this week

The Council says the delay in waste removal is also due to Covid-related staff absences.

Waste collections at the affected addresses will take place a day later than scheduled.

The authority has offered its “sincere apologies to residents for the inconvenience.”

With A-level results day just around the corner, universities nationwide are preparing for a surge in demand for places

Residents and business owners in New Malden are calling for a clampdown on food delivery mopeds

They claim up to 20 riders at a time are congregating outside McDonald’s in the High Street.

Complaints range from anti-social driving behaviour to a blocking of the parking bays.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council is the first authority in London to gain accreditation for a new anti-social behaviour scheme

Residents suffering persistently will now be given the chance to get their cases reviewed via the “ASB Pledge.”

The scheme allows victims to examine what actions have been taken by authorities including the council and police.

To qualify for the review, they must have been affected by three separate incidents of anti-social behaviour over the space of 6 months.

After seven years at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, hit TV series “24 Hours in A&E” is moving to a new home.

The documentary, which takes viewers behind the scenes of accident and emergency, will move to Nottingham from next year.

There have been 24 series to date, filmed over 10 years, with 200 episodes featuring at St George’s. 

The programme’s producers say George’s has been a “wonderful home” but they are excited about working with a new hospital.

Concern is rising about the number of e-scooters being ridden illegally around Richmond and Kingston.

A trial of the scooters began in parts of London at the beginning of June, which includes Richmond, but not Kingston. 

Richmond Park MP, Sarah Olney, has addressed the issue with the Deputy Mayor of London for Transport, Heidi Alexander.   

TfL has told Ms Olney it is continuing to monitor the scheme closely and will take action where necessary.

A bone marrow charity based in Roehampton is calling on black, Asian and mixed-race donors to come forward and donate.

The Team Margot Foundation was set up in 2014 in memory of two year old Margo Martini who died from Leukaemia. 

Margot needed a bone marrow transplant, but her mixed heritage meant it wasn't possible find a 'perfect' match.

People from these communities are most disadvantaged when it comes to seeking a donor with a matching tissue type. 

Just 3% of registered bone marrow donors mixed race.

There must be 10-12 matching genetic markers for the transplant to be successful, and these are dictated by race.

Richmond Park’s MP is reminding her constituents to ring the police, and not her office, when reporting a crime taking place.

Sarah Olney says witnesses  must use the approved methods of ringing 101 or 999 in an emergency.

The Lib Dem says “there have unfortunately been a few instances recently where residents have reported crime to my office.”

Ms Olney says this is not appropriate, nor is it the quickest way of reporting crime.

Thames Ditton’s Dylan Fletcher has won his first Olympic medal in today’s men’s sailing 49er at Tokyo 2020.

Fletcher alongside teammate Stuart Bithell took gold earlier, crossing the finish line just two centimetres ahead of Germany.

The pair had originally been rivals before deciding to team up to qualify for Tokyo.

A former music teacher at a school in Hammersmith has been convicted of 32 sex offences against young girls

40-year-old Ben Breakwell from York was found to be grooming girls with flattering and supportive messages that led them to believe he loved them.

One girl, who was kissed during a lesson, didn’t come forward as she feared there was nothing to support her account.

However, when the friends of one of the victims approached a member of staff, Breakwall was suspended and the police alerted.

A father has raised over £2,300 for St George’s Hospital in Tooting, after his son was treated in intensive care

Benedick Ashmore-Short took part in the Isle of Wight UltraMarathon to thank the paediatric team for saving his son Busby.

He says “their was as loving as It was skilful” and they’re “worthy of all of humanity’s gratitude”.

A former Mayor of Epsom and Ewell has died during a crash at Brands Hatch racing track

Robert Foote was serving as a volunteer marshal at the event on Saturday, when a car spun off the track.

He worked as a part time driver for Epsom Coaches, and during his time as Mayor, launched the Epsom Buses silver service.

He gave a lot of his time to motor sport, and was also a motor vehicle technician.

COVID-19 rates in Surrey have fallen by a third in the past seven days

The biggest drop was in Reigate and Banstead, which saw a decline of 40%.

Nearly 70% of people in the county have had both vaccine doses, which is above the national average.

Runnymede has the lowest takeup, although only by a few percentage points.

A football match in East Molesey has raised over £2,200 for a sepsis charity

Stephan Epathite from Kingston lost his mother in December, and set up Match For Mum in her memory.

A crowdfunder is still running.

Sepsis, the body’s extreme response to an infection, kills an estimated 50,000 people a year in the UK.

The Ultra-Low Emission Zone expands into parts of South-West London in October

Vehicles will either need to meet the ULEZ emissions standards or pay a £12.50 daily charge when driving through it.

Areas like Clapham, Battersea, Barnes and Kew will be included in the new zone.

Mums for Lungs campaigner Jemima Hartshorn says the ULEZ is a big step forward, but more needs to be done.

Dizzee Rascal's been charged with assault over an incident at a home in Streatham in June

Police say 36 year-old Dylan Mills, which is the rapper's real name, will appear in court next month.

A woman reported minor injuries, and she didn't need to go to hospital.

London Underground strikes have been called off for this week

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union were planning to stage a series of 24-hour walkouts - starting from today.

It was over plans to scrap the pay grade of night Tube drivers - but now talks are being held to resolve the dispute.

Planned strikes for later this month are still due to go ahead.

A man has been arrested following a knife attack in Fulham.

Police were called on Friday to Lille Road after a man was attacked with a knife by a group of people.

The remaining suspects are still being pursued by police.

Police were authorised to use extra stop and search powers the day after the incident.

An inquest has heard a terrorist who stabbed two people in Streatham had been released from prison just days before the attack.

20 year old Sudesh Amman was shot dead after the stabbings in Streatham High Road in February last year.

He had just served 40 months behind bars for a terrorism offence and police had asked the prison governor not to release him. 

However, the request was turned down because the offence he was jailed for could not justify an extension of his sentence.

Ministers are defending the possible introduction of an amber watchlist for travel, claiming it'll allow passengers to make informed decisions.

It could see countries, maybe including Spain, turn "red", with very little notice, forcing people to quarantine in a hotel.

Meanwhile, from today, those double-jabbed from the US and some EU countries can skip isolation.

At Heathrow Airport, Reese Wilson, who lives in the US with his American wife and children, has been reunited with his wider family in Surrey after 21 months apart.

It’s believed a fire at a takeaway in Hounslow was caused by an unattended pan of oil.

Emergency crews were called Friday morning to Kingsley Road, where they lead a woman to safety.

The pan caught fire, which then spread into the ducting where oil and fat has built up, causing it to spread and damage part of the roof.

Restaurants are being told to clean their extractors regularly, and use an electronic deep fat fryer if possible.

The Channel 4 programme 24 Hours In A& E is moving out of Tooting to Nottingham.

It originally filmed at King’s College Hospital in Camberwell, but moved to St George’s in 2014.

The documentary will now mark its 10th year by relocating to the Queen's Medical Centre teaching hospital this autumn.

Since its launch, more than 250 episodes have aired across 24 series.

The Duchess of Cambridge is reportedly set to replace Prince Harry as patron of England Rugby Football Union.

It’s after he stepped down as a senior member of the royal family last year. 

The move is expected to be announced by the Twickenham based RFU later this year according to The Times.

A man has fallen to his death from a building site in Hammersmith, while police looked for a suspect in a bar fight.

Police were called to a bar on the Broadway just before 3am yesterday.

It’s believed the suspect assaulted a number of people, then fled.

Just after 3am, the man was found dead at the building site.

The Met’s Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating, as well as the Health and Safety Executive.

A man is in a life-threatening condition after a serious collision in Wimbledon.

Police were called to Wimbledon Park Side at 18:26pm last night to reports of an accident involving a car and a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, was found seriously injured.

London's Air Ambulance was called to the scene and took him to hospital.

A care home in Banstead has won an award for keeping its staff trained through the pandemic.

The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society has been recognised at the Great British Care Awards.

Sharon Hicks, from the home, says it “invests so much time and effort in fostering a culture of learning and development”.

The R.A.S.S has won the South-East award, and will now be up for the national award in September.

Holiday industry experts say a new amber travel watchlist would be a "disaster".

Tory backbenchers and Labour have also criticised the expected move.

It could turn countries red, with little warning - meaning people would be forced into hotel quarantine on their return.

It comes as those double-jabbed arriving form some EU nations and the US no longer have to isolate.

A 17-year-old is in hospital after being stabbed in Croydon.

Police were called just after 9.30 this morning to Mitcham Road.

The teen’s injuries aren’t life threatening.

There have been no arrests so far.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers to stay anonymous.

Travel bosses are calling for coronavirus rules to be made "simple", as ministers reportedly consider an amber watchlist, which could see quarantine re-imposed at short notice

It's thought Spain may be among the countries added to it.

Meanwhile, isolation rules for those fully-vaccinated from most of the EU and the US have ended today.

A road is going to be closed in Kingston until Friday, after a burst water main

The leak has caused extensive damage to the eastbound stretch of the A308 Kingston Hill, between the Black Horse pub and the hospital.

The westbound stretch was closed, but reopened at around 8.30 this morning.

The 57, 85 and 213 buses are on diversion.

Ministers are reportedly considering advising against travel to popular destinations - like Spain - with the extension of a so-called "amber watchlist"

Countries could turn red with little notice - meaning forced quarantine for holidaymakers on their return.

Backbench Conservative MPs and industry leaders say that would devastate the sector.

From today, people from the US and most of the EU can visit without self isolating.

An elderly man remains in hospital today in a life-threatening condition after being involved in a collision with a car on the A3 in Kingston

The incident happened Saturday afternoon near to the junction with Rydal Gardens.

The 82-year-old pedestrian’s next of kin have been informed. 

The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping officers with their enquiries.

There have been no arrests.

Officers would like to hear from a number of other drivers who were in the area at the time.

A public inquiry will be held next month into the decisions of Epsom & Ewell Council to refuse planning approval for Guild Living plans for a high storey, high density, urban retirement community within Epsom

Two separate applications for Guild Living’s proposals for the ex-hospital land in Epsom have been to the Council’s Planning Committee.

On both occasions, councillors refused planning approval.
 
Guild Living appealed to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The UK's blaming Iran for an attack on an Israeli-linked oil tanker off the coast of Oman

 Two people were killed, including a British security guard.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab called it unlawful, callous and deliberate.

The MP for Esher and Walton says the government's working with international partners on a 'concerted response'.

Iran's foreign ministry previously dismissed allegations it was behind it as 'baseless'.

Stormzy has thanked HSBC for its £2million donation to help him send more black students to Cambridge University

The rapper, who lives in Kingston, Merky Foundation started the project with six students in 2018.

Now a further 30 will receive a £20,000 per year scholarship to Cambridge.

British Airways parent company AIG says it’s going to increase its summer flight schedule to meet a surge in demand

It's planning to operate around 45% of passenger capacity between August and September compared with the same period in 2019.

That is up from 21.9% during the previous three months.

Gary Cahill's confirmed he's left Crystal Palace

The former England and Chelsea defender's contract expired at the end of the season and both parties have failed to agree a new deal.

It brings to an end what Cahill's described as an "enjoyable two years".

An Academy Trust based in Worcester Park has won an education technology award

The LEO Academy Trust, which oversees 7 primary schools,  scooped the Best School Collaboration Award at the BETT Awards.

 The accolade was awarded for the Trust’s co-development of educational resources for ReadingZone Live.

 It also recognised the “transformative impact” it has had on standards of reading, writing and comprehension for its 3,500 pupils.

People in Croydon will be able to sponsor trees, to liven up the borough.

People wanting to get involved in the Trees for Streets scheme can use an online platform to make a request.

There’s an option either to get the council to water it, or a cheaper option to water it yourself.

Councillor Muhammed Ali says tree planting will help tackle the climate crisis and make people feel happier.

Local government and business leaders in Croydon have written to the Chancellor to urge him to extend the furlough scheme.

13 thousand residents in Croydon are currently on furlough. From tomorrow business costs will double and the scheme is due to end in September. 

The letter, signed by leading councillors and members of the local Chambre of Commerce, warns Rishi Sunak that without an extension more people could end up out of work and claiming benefits.

Gullies and drains are being cleared across Sutton following two torrential downpours in as many weeks.

The council is undertaking the work as a preventative measure to help stop flooding.

Last week’s weather resulted in areas including Central Road in Worcester Park becoming unpassable with some cars submerged. 

Sutton is urging residents who think their drains may be blocked to get in contact and to call 999 in an emergency.

Tension is mounting between residents and drivers at one of Surrey’s beauty spots.

Ranmore Common, which borders Leatherhead and Dorking, has seen an increase in off-road vehicles since the start of lockdown.

New tracks are being illegally carved out on private land causing damage to nesting sites and historic landscape features. 

Residents claim to have also noted a spike in anti-social behaviour such as fly-tipping, trespassing and setting fire to vehicles.
