 'The Worst of Times, The Best of Times' will be an interactive display focusing on the books "that saved people's lives in 2020".

Submissions are being collected throughout August via the council's website.

The project will be hosted by Kensington Central Library in the Autumn.

It says current sentences "do not always match the severity of the offence committed or fairly reflect the cost incurred".

It's asking the Sentencing Council to consider a number of amendments including community-based sentences.

The body also wants anyone convicted of a second fly-tipping offence to be jailed rather than handed another suspended sentence.

23-year-old Abel Buafo pleaded guilty to numerous offences between 12 March 2020 and Thursday, 29 July.

The offences includes possession of a knife, possession of Class A and B drugs possession of criminal property and being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug.

He will be sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 17 September.

 The UK’s biggest LGBTQ pride festival usually takes place in the capital but was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

Organisers say this year’s event could not go ahead under current guidelines.

The event usually sees tens of thousands marching and celebrating through the streets of central London that are shut off to usual traffic.

Executive director Chris Joell-Deshields says 2022 will be the most inclusive yet.

35 year old Sukhpinder Sidhu was sentenced last week for possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Earlier this year he was stopped and searched after officers caught him dealing drugs in Yeading.

They found heroin, cocaine, cannabis and some tablets believed to be ecstasy in his rucksack, estimated to be at a street value of £10,000.

Officers were called to an address in the area where they found the three men hiding inside.

Police arrested them and charged them all with burglary.

They await to attend court.

It closed in December 2018, and the Barclays closed last month, leaving the town without a bank or post office.

Council Leader Steve Curran lives in the area, and says he knows how important it is to be able to access services through it.

Disruption lasted over an hour and a half on the South Western Railway network. 

Richmond Park Lib Dem MP Sarah Olney says the system isn’t designed with them in mind, and they’re not always identified.

The 20-year-old stabbed two people in south London last year - ten days after he'd been freed from jail.

17 year old Denardo Samuels-Brooks died from a stab injury on June the 10th in Prentis Road.

The woman arrested was detained on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on bail until next month.

Five people in total have been charged in connection with the stabbing. 

Over the past week, Croydon Council has contacted all households to confirm their details of the annual voter registration canvass.

All councils are required to carry out an annual canvass by law to ensure it’s up-to-date, and to encourage those not registered, to do so.

This is an opportunity for residents to make sure they can vote in the council’s governance referendum which will be held on 7th October.

The 25 people admitted were of all ages, and none had been vaccinated, apart from five “very elderly” patients. 

That number was up from 17 the week before.

Most exploitation involves the use of children by ‘county lines’ networks that distribute drugs from cities to towns and villages.

In the year to February, Surrey Police identified 206 young people at risk of exploitation, of which 14% were already experiencing it.

Emergency crews were called just before 9am on Wednesday to Holborn, after reports a cyclist had been hit by an HGV.

41-year-old Dr Marta Krawiec was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her parents say “Marta lived helping other people every day” and “she died on the way to her patients”.

The driver stopped at the scene and hasn’t been arrested.

Money raised from the 4 or 7km stroll goes towards funding work done by the Wimbledon Guild.

The charity offers vulnerable people in Merton financial, practical and emotional support where needed.

The event on October the 2nd, is open to everyone, with or without a dog.

The pilot contraflows will launch next Friday in in residential, one-way streets.

18 year old Emilio died this morning in a quad bike accident near Lisbon in Portugal.

Sudesh Amman stabbed two people in Streatham High Road before being shot dead by officers in February last year.

MI5 and police officers met on the 9th of January 2020, two weeks before his automatic release from prison. 

Jurors have been told one officer remarked an attack would be "when, not if."

The authority now has to go through a legal process to obtain and enforce a Possession Order which could take a number of days.

The Clink gives prisoners at sites like High Down in Sutton the chance to train in a kitchen.

Detectives have named the victim as Mauricio Nascimento, aged 44, who was also known as ‘Maurice’ and was from Croydon.

After revealing her A* results to us last year, Rivers Academy Feltham student Aanchal Thapa set off for Rice University in Texas.

We’ve caught up with her to find out why she’s encouraging others not to let a global pandemic get in the way of their dreams.

The victim of a fatal assault in Lambeth has been named by Metropolitan Police as 44-year-old Mauricio Nascimento from Croydon. 

Four men have already been arrested in connection with the assault that took place on 12 July.

A trial of the scooters began in parts of London at the beginning of June, which includes Richmond, but not Kingston.

The Team Margot Foundation was set up in 2014 in memory of two year old Margo Martini who died from Leukaemia. 

Margot needed a bone marrow transplant, but her mixed heritage meant it wasn't possible find a 'perfect' match.

People from these communities are most disadvantaged when it comes to seeking a donor with a matching tissue type. 

Just 3% of registered bone marrow donors mixed race.

There must be 10-12 matching genetic markers for the transplant to be successful, and these are dictated by race.

Sarah Olney says witnesses  must use the approved methods of ringing 101 or 999 in an emergency.

The Lib Dem says “there have unfortunately been a few instances recently where residents have reported crime to my office.”

20 year old Sudesh Amman was shot dead after the stabbings in Streatham High Road in February last year.

He had just served 40 months behind bars for a terrorism offence and police had asked the prison governor not to release him. 

However, the request was turned down because the offence he was jailed for could not justify an extension of his sentence.

It could see countries, maybe including Spain, turn "red", with very little notice, forcing people to quarantine in a hotel.

At Heathrow Airport, Reese Wilson, who lives in the US with his American wife and children, has been reunited with his wider family in Surrey after 21 months apart.

13 thousand residents in Croydon are currently on furlough. From tomorrow business costs will double and the scheme is due to end in September.
