The Royal Marsden Hospital is to pioneer a new “calculator” to assess a patient’s risk of cancer to try and speed up diagnosis of the disease

The Everest Hn study will recruit over 100-thousand patients from across the country who have been referred with suspected signs of cancer.

The Royal Marsden’s two main hospitals are in Sutton and Chelsea with a medical day unit at Kingston Hospital.

England came from 25-6 down to clinch a 25-all draw with New Zealand in a thrilling end to their rugby union autumn international

Two tries from Will Stuart and Freddie Steward also crossed the line for the hosts at Twickenham.

Captain Owen Farrell marked his 100th cap with a penalty.

England, who were winners over Japan last time out, also got a victory against the All Blacks in their previous meeting at the 2019 World Cup.

 AFC Wimbledon won 2-nil at Tranmere.

In the FA Trophy Hampton & Richmond Borough went down 1-nil at home to Farnborough.

An elderly man was killed in a collision with a car in North Cheam on Friday.

Paramedics and police were called to Courtenay Road at around 6.15pm to a man injured after he had been hit by a vehicle.

The car did not stop at the scene, and no arrests have been made. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, the man died at the scene.

Police are calling for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage to call 101.

Surrey Police are appealing for information after a hate crime incident took place in Guildford this week.

The incident involved the victim being followed by a man as she walked down Walnut Tree Close towards Onslow Street. The man then repeatedly shouted racial abuse at her.

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s, wearing a black jacket, hat and glasses.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the police on 101.

England rugby head coach Eddie Jones feels the battle of the back rows will be crucial when they face New Zealand later.
The All-Blacks head to Twickenham after victories over Scotland and Wales in the Autumn Nations series.

Jones says he knows where their opponents are strongest.

Kick-off is at 530pm.

A man from Mitcham has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his part in a violent burglary in November last year.

Simon Ludlow, 50, of London Road, was one of three men found guilty of aggravated burglary at Kingston Crown Court.

The victim, a woman in her in her thirties was approached by the men as she was leaving her flat in Putney with her three young children.

The three men, who pretended to be Police officers, subjected her to a violent assault.

Kew Gardens is celebrating ten years of its famous light trail.

The world heritage site was the first in the country to launch such a display.

Dáire Basra is head of commercial events at the gardens. 

She said the annual trail is so much more than an attraction.

Owen Farrell will make it a century of appearances for England when he lines up against New Zealand at Twickenham later.

He’ll hope to mark his 100th cap by making it back-to-back victories after their win over Japan last weekend.

It will be the first time England have faced the All Blacks since beating them in the World Cup semi-finals.

Wandsworth Council has begun seizing Lime e-bikes, after warning the operator to take immediate action over bikes blocking routes.

Council leader Simon Hogg said some parts of Wandsworth town were impassable due to discarded e-bikes.

In August Westminster City Council seized several bikes because they were causing a significant safety risk.

Lime says it is taking steps to ensure its customers don’t have a negative impact on other people’s journeys.

The Leader of Merton Council is asking for reassurance the borough’s police stations won’t be closed.

Ross Garrod has written to Deputy Mayor for Policing Sophie Linden.

He’s worried about the future of both Wimbledon and Mitcham stations. 

Wimbledon Police station has been threatened with closure in the past and although it saw a reduction in staff, it is still open. 

Mr Garrod says officers need to be based in the area which they serve. 

He’s revealed Merton has seen small increases in crime, and says a visible, local police presence is central to making sure it remains safe.

Kingston Council’s Chief Executive is leaving the role.

 Ian Thomas is to take up the position of Town Clerk and Chief Executive of the City of London Corporation. 

He’ll leave the council at the end of January. 

Ian has been the Chief Executive since January 2019, with the authority praising his response to the pandemic.

Some 4,000 listed houses in Kensington and Chelsea are to become more energy efficient.

 At the moment any extra glazing on single glazed windows in listed buildings needs to be approved by the council. 

But the authority is looking at ways to make it easier for homeowners to make their properties greener.

The Council has also removed the need for individual listed building consent for solar panels.

Sutton Council is reiterating its opposition to plans to increase operations at the Energy Recovery Facility in Beddington.

Energy firm Viridor’s has asked Environment Agency to increase the amount of waste treated at the facility by 10%.

This would be from 347,000 tonnes annually to 382,000.

The Council is also calling on residents to make sure they have their say in the current public consultation.

England rugby union forwards coach Richard Cockerill's called on the Twickenham crowd to drown out New Zealand's haka tomorrow.

25 years ago as a player, he was accused of being disrespectful when he went face to face with an All Blacks player during the Maori pre-match ritual.

Cockerill doesn't regret it and he won't reveal what England have planned this time.

Merton Council is selling its world-leading risk prevention company to a firm in the US.

CHAS was set up in 1997, and became council-owned in 2013, and currently represents more than 30,000 contractors. 

Merton CEO Hannah Doody says its “developed significantly” in the past five years, and the sale will create the investment for it to grow. 

New owner Veriforce will fund a £50,000 internship program for young adults, and give a yearly £50,000 to small businesses grow.

Investigations are continuing after a man died in Wimbledon.

Emergency crews were called at around 1.45am to Worple Road where a Mercedes had collided with a 37-year-old pedestrian.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and drink or drug driving.

Officers investigating a sexual assault on a train from Waterloo to Guildford are today releasing images in connection.



At 11pm on Wednesday, the  28th of September, the victim boarded the train and a man sat opposite her. 

Throughout the journey she noticed him staring at her and making gestures with his arms. 

As the train approached Woking, he sexually assaulted her. 

The victim then confronted him and he got up and walked away. 

Officers believe the man in the images may have information which could help their investigation.

Phase Eight's owner is exploring an offer to buy fashion brand Joules which went into administration on Wednesday.

The Foschini Group, based in South Africa, is looking to take control of the Wandsworth based company, which employs more than 1,600 people. 

Next, Mike Ashley's Frasers Group and Marks & Spencer are also expected to bid.

A trial date has been set for the man accused of murdering Met Police Sergeant Matiu Ratana inside Croydon custody centre in 2020.

25 year old Louis De Zoysa is due to start next June and last up to three weeks. 

A pre-trial hearing has also been set for the week commencing April the 24th.

A controlled explosion has been carried out after an unexploded shell was discovered in Hersham.

Police were called to a garden in Burwood Park Road earlier. 

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team removed the ordnance device and carried out the explosion.

Croydon barbers, hair and beauty professionals are to be given free training to help customers talk openly about their mental health.

The council is working with The Lions Barber Collective to deliver bespoke training. 

The free online training has been organised with funding from the south west London Integrated Care System. 

It’ll take place on Monday the 28th of November. 

One person in England takes their own life every 90 minutes.

A climate emergency centre has opened in Kingston.

The Council says the aim of the space, run by Kingston Hive, is to “help educate and empower residents to tackle climate change.” 

The Hive is run by volunteers focused on the cause. 

Located next to the cycle parking at Kingston Station in Wood Street, the centre will host a range of activities and workshops until January.

Lambeth Council says it’s trying to help more business owners in the borough pay the London Living Wage.

The rate of £11.95 an hour is higher than the National Living Wage of £9.50 an hour. 

Lambeth’s three NHS trusts already pay the wage, as does the Council.   

Companies that are accredited are offered a business rates rebate for the first year of the scheme to help them sustain it.

A man has died in a collision in Wimbledon this morning

People in Richmond are being asked to consider taking in a Ukrainian family for Christmas

The Council is particularly interested in hearing from people who have space for more than one adult or groups with children.   

The authority says although over 400 households have welcomed guests so far, the need has not gone away.

Prospective hosts need to be able to offer accommodation for a minimum of six months.

Heathrow airport says they don't expect flights to be cancelled as around 350 ground staff walk out from today in a row over pay

The members of Unite union, working for private contractor Menzies, are striking for 72 hours.

Contingency plans are in place, but passengers are being urged to check with their airlines for updates.

Postal staff at Royal Mail are going to strike for two additional days next month - potentially impacting Christmas deliveries

Members of the Wimbledon-based Communication Workers Union are walking out on the 23rd and 24th in a dispute over pay.

There's also going to be industrial action earlier in December.

Wandsworth Council will start impounding Lime e-bikes today

It’s after council leader Simon Hogg wrote to CEO Wayne Ting to warn him more needs to be done to stop them blocking pavements. 

It’s understood no agreement has been reached. 

A spokesperson for Lime told us that all e-bikes that are reported as causing a problem are collected quickly.

Fireworks at Twickenham Stoop in 15-try thriller as Harlequins triumph over Barbarians

In an exhilarating friendly under the floodlights at the Twickenham Stoop, Harlequins emerged victorious.

A tight first half saw the invitational side, captained by former Quins Mike Brown, go into the break with a narrow lead; a conversion separating the two teams despite the Barbarians having fly-half Damian McKenzie sin-binned for 10 minutes.

They continued their momentum at the start of the second 40-minutes, extending their lead to 28 points.  That, however, is where their scoring came to an end.

Harlequins, meanwhile, started to play for fun and in turn came up with some fantastic plays - overhead kicks; Dombrandt attempting a conversion; and the biggest cheer of the evening went to Joe Marler who converted his own try for the hosts.

Play was fast-paced in this historic showcase.  The first time Harlequins have faced the Barbarians; the first win going to the hosts.

Police have stepped up patrols in Wandsworth after two men forced their way into a woman’s home and threatened her at knifepoint.

The 22 year old answered the door holding her child on Tuesday lunchtime.   

Two male suspects proceeded to hold her at knifepoint and demanded money from her. 

Footage of two men has been released but no items are believed to have been taken and there are no reports of any injuries. 

Detective Sergeant Cerith Jones, investigating, said: "The community will be appalled by this awful incident and I know many people will want to reach out and help us identify them.

"I urge local people to please check your doorbell and dash cam footage for any material that could assist us. If you were in the vicinity and saw two men acting suspiciously, or running away, we want to hear from you.

"The young woman was terrified and it is imperative that we catch the men responsible."

Police will conducting extra patrols in the area over the coming days to help reassure local people.

Wandsworth and Richmond are just two towns out of 123 worldwide to make it onto a prestigious list of areas tackling climate change.

The Cities A List has been pulled together by CDP. 

The not-for-profit global charity monitors environmental impacts and reports on climate action. 

It’s designed to encourage and support cities and boroughs to increase their climate action and ambition. 

Just over one in ten authorities scored by CDP received an A this year including Richmond and Wandsworth.

Croydon Council is considering plans for a new waste management and street cleaning contractor.

It’s after the South London Waste Partnership recommended its four member councils do not renew their shared contract with Veolia. 

The current deal, which was reached in 2017, comes to an end in 2025. 

Residents will be invited to give their views through an online survey, with details published once available.

Erin Cuthbert has signed a new contract at Women's Super League champions Chelsea.

The deal will keep her at the club until the summer of 2025. 

Cuthbert's won four top flight titles at the London club, as well as lifting two FA Cups and a League Cup since making the switch from Glasgow City six years ago.

Spelthorne Borough Council says it’s seeing an increase in cases of bird flu with a number of incidents involving dead wild swans.

The council is working to ensure they are humanely removed from the area. 

People are being urged to stick to river towpaths when out walking and keep dogs on leads. 

This outbreak of Avian Flu is being treated as the largest ever in the UK.

Wastewater has been dumped into the Thames five times over the last sixteen days.

Thames Water says that the discharges of untreated sewage are “unacceptable” and it's “working hard” to accelerate work to stop it. 

It adds that large solids have been removed and the discharges are permitted by the Environment Agency. 

Richmond Park MP Sarah Olney says it’s an “admission of failure” and is calling for a crackdown on water company practices.

Female tennis players will now be able to wear dark-coloured undershorts at Wimbledon.

 It’s after the Championships announced changes to the strict dress code. 

Competitors have previously been restricted to all-white clothing, with fines for those found in breach of the rules. 

The All-England Club says it's made amendments to support women and girls taking part at the event.

Tom Tugendhat has been banned from driving for six months after he was caught with his mobile phone in his hand while driving in Wandsworth.

The security minister, who lives in Clapham,  was stopped by police in April. 

The judge says he expects the Conservative MP for Tonbridge and Malling to "set a good example for the rest of us".

A crackdown on street drinking and anti-social behaviour is coming to Croydon Town Centre

Over a quarter of people who responded to a consultation say they saw people being harassed and intimidated on a daily basis.

When the Public Space Protection Order comes into force, it’ll be in place for three years, with reviews taking place as it goes.

The council says they’ll be working with alcohol support groups and mental health services to make sure people receive the support they need.

In a historic evening of rugby under the floodlights, Harlequins welcome the Barbarians tonight

Former Quins and England international Mike Brown returns to the Twickenham Stoop to lead the invitational side.

 International players from England, Scotland, the Springboks and the All Blacks will be putting on the famous Black and White jersey for the BaaBaas. 

It is the first meeting between these two teams. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been charged with 232 alleged breaches of the Football Association's betting rules

The offences are believed to have taken place between February 2017 and January 2021. 

Toney has been given until next Thursday to respond to a charge of misconduct. 

His club say they'll continue discussions with their player and his legal representatives privately.

Postal workers have accused Royal Mail bosses of "gross mismanagement" as negotiations over pay continue and Christmas strikes remain possible

Dave Ward, from the Wimbledon-based Communication Workers Union says bosses, not workers, caused money problems with constant "errors of judgement".

The company says upcoming industrial action, planned to start a week today, will only mean more money lost and therefore make it harder to offer better pay deals.

People who dump their rubbish on housing estates in Wandsworth are being warned they are likely to be caught on camera

The council has recently upgraded its CCTV network with new cameras delivering much sharper and clearer images. 

The authority says this makes the identification of flytippers’ faces and any vehicles much more effective. 

Officers now have the power to issue £400 fixed penalty notices on-the-spot for fly-tipping.

Footage of two men has been released, after they forced their way into a woman’s home in Wandsworth while she was holding her child







At just before 1.30pm on Tuesday, they knocked on her door, held her at knifepoint, and demanded money from her. 

Nothing is believed to be taken and there are no reports of any injuries. 

Police are stepping up patrols in the area over the coming days.

A man originally from Hounslow wanted by the National Crime agency, has been arrested and extradited back to the UK.

54-year-old Vasile Costache who is Romanian is wanted in connection people smuggling into the UK.

He was intercepted in June 2019 by Dutch police with a group of Afghan migrants in the back of his Mercedes van.

He was charged with conspiring to facilitate illegal immigration and granted bail but failed to turn up to a court hearing in June.

Visitors to Richmond Riverside can now share a bench with iconic author Virginia Woolf.

A bronze statue of the writer, who lived and worked in the town between 1914 and 1924, has been unveiled on the Upper Terraces.  

Aurora Metro Arts and Media spent 5 years raising the £50,000 needed to install the statue.

The charity’s Cheryl Robson explains why honouring Virginia in particular, was so important.

Former Chelsea and England defender Gary Cahill has announced his retirement from playing at the age of 36.

The defender won eight major trophies during his time at Stamford Bridge, including two Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League.

Cahill also turned out for Bolton, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa - and made more than 60 appearances for his country.

A Just Stop Oil protester in prison in Ashford has been moved to the hospital wing, after going on hunger strike.

34-year-old Tez Burnes was among 65 people arrested following demonstrations on the M25 last week.

They say that “new oil and gas is a death sentence and I have no future”.

700 people were arrested after disrupting the M25, including climbing into the overhead gantries.

A rare mayfly has been spotted in the UK near Walton Bridge for the first time in 49 years.



The Caenis beskidensis was discovered as part of survey work by the River Thames Scheme.

Mayflies form an important part of the river eco-system and are an important food source for fish.

They generally inhabit small and medium sized streams in slow flowing shallow water.

A bronze statue of one of our most famous writers has been unveiled on Richmond Riverside.

Virginia Woolf lived and worked in the town between 1914 and 1924, setting up her publishing house, Hogarth Press, there. 

Aurora Metro Arts and Media charity spent 5 years raising the £50,000 needed to install the statue which depicts Virginia on a bench. 

The writer’s great, great niece, Sophie Partridge, had the honour of unveiling it just before the heavens opened.

British Airways is to trial technology that will allow passengers to leave Heathrow without using their passport.

It’s going to use biometric technology for international flights, where people will scan their face, passport, and boarding pass before flying.

It’s hoped that the smart cameras will verify people’s identify in under three seconds.

The trial will run for six months on flights to Malaga in Spain.

Part of the ground floor of a house in Wimbledon has been damaged by fire.

The brigade was called just after 6.30 this morning to Durnsford Road.

There are no reports of any injuries and the cause is under investigation.

Around one in seven people staying in hospital could be discharged, but can’t because of a lack of social care.

The Guardian reports that the number at Epsom and St Helier was one in five in October.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson says they’re investing £500m nationwide to tackle the problem.

A spokesperson for Epsom and St Helier says they’re “busier than ever” and urges people to get their flu and COVID vaccines.

“Our hospitals are busier than ever so we are working with our partners to discharge patients as soon as they medically fit to leave. You can help the NHS this winter by getting your flu and covid vaccine and by visiting a pharmacist, GP or contacting NHS 111 online for healthcare advice.”

A bridge in Wimbledon has been named as one of the top 10 most-hit railway bridges in Britain.

Each of the structures named by Network Rail has been the subject of collisions at least ten times in the year to the end of March.

Stonea Road bridge in Cambridgeshire topped the list after being hit 33 times in just 12 months.

This was followed by Lower Down’s Road bridge in Wimbledon, with 18 strikes.

The Deputy Prime Minister and MP for Esher and Walton has been defending himself after two complaints about his conduct:

Rishi Sunak has agreed, and Dominic Raab insists he’ll fully co-operate.

Allegations have emerged that he bullied officials and was rude and demeaning when he previously held jobs in government.

Mr Raab was standing in for his boss at Prime Minister's Questions with the PM at the G20 in Indonesia.

Thousands of loo rolls with information about bowel cancer on the packaging have started making their way into Tesco stores

The move was one of the last requests of Dame Deborah James, the campaigner known as Bowel Babe. 

The 40 year old from Barnes passed away in June after 5 years fighting Bowel Cancer. 

Tesco announced its exclusive official partnership with Dame Deborah before her death and also pledged £300,000 to her fund.

A park is to open in Tooting that’s said to be the biggest in London since the Olympics

The former Springfield Hospital site will be turned into a 32 acre, £150m green space. 

It’ll include a youth shelter, sporting areas, ponds, and an amphitheatre. 

The park is expected to open in parts, beginning in the spring of next year and finishing in the summer of 2025.

The UK’s main site for looking into animal-based disease is in an “alarming” state, according to a parliamentary report

The Animal and Plant Health Agency building in Weybridge is said to be the subject of “inadequate management and under-investment”. 

There are plans to build a new science hub, with construction due to start in 2027.

A DEFRA spokesperson says significant funding and work is underway, and that teams are playing a “vital role”.

Council leader Simon Hogg has written to CEO Wayne Ting to warn him more needs to be done to stop them blocking pavements.

He says they are causing serious obstructions for residents, shoppers and visitors to the borough, prompting a “flood” of complaints.

Cllr Hogg also says the current deployment of Lime e-bikes has been done without discussion with the Council. 

The council will start impounding them on Friday if urgent action isn’t taken to rectify the situation. 

Westminster Council issued a similar ultimatum in August and Kingston Council asks people use Human Forest, its official e-bike partner, and not Lime. 

A spokesperson for Lime told us that all e-bikes that are reported as causing a problem are collected quickly.

Two people from Chertsey and Hounslow have been jailed for their part in a drug line in Chester

44-year-old Jonathan Michel was identified as the controller of the line, and 38-year-old Howard Cash as a worker in it. 

Police gathered evidence showing they’d been involved in the supply of three kilograms of Class A drugs, worth around £300,000. 

Michel has been sentenced to 10 years and six months, and Howard, five years and 10 months.

A bronze statue of one of our most famous writers and feminists will be unveiled in Richmond this afternoon

Virginia Woolf lived and worked in the town between 1914 and 1924.

Aurora Metro Arts and Media Charity has dedicated five years to raising the £50,000 needed to install the statue.

It will be officially unveiled in its new home in Terrace Gardens, overlooking the Thames.

Vulnerable people in Wandsworth are to get more support this winter.

The Council has announced additional grants for community and voluntary groups.   

The money will help fund community-based programmes that provide hot meals, cut fuel costs, provide mental health support and more.   

The ‘Capacity Building Grants’ are one element of a £5million package of support from the council.

Thousands of people are set to receive compensation, after a worldwide lottery scam was busted.

That includes 32 people in Surrey, who are due to receive just over £6,600 between them. 

Lee Ormandy, from Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards, says scammers are trying to capitalise on the cost of living crisis. 

We’re being urged to be wary of any unsolicited post, phone calls, or cold callers.

Gunnersbury Park and Museum is now recognised as a leader in its sector.

It’s been awarded the National Portfolio Organisation by the Arts Council England. 

Companies have to prove they are engaging communities and individuals in arts, culture and heritage. 

Gunnersbury will now receive £129,500 per year for the next three years as a result of the accolade.

Chelsea have agreed a "significant" compensation package with Brighton for head of recruitment Paul Winstanley.

He'd already been placed on gardening leave while the two clubs discussed terms for him to move to Stamford Bridge.

Winstanley follows Albion's former boss Graham Potter in making the switch to London.

Firefighters and control staff have turned down a 5% pay offer.

The Norbiton-based Fire Brigades Union says they’ll now be balloting on whether or not to strike. 

General Secretary Matt Wrack says they have “firefighters using foodbanks” and that 5% is a real-terms pay cut. 

He says “we will be writing to Fire Ministers and Government departments across the UK requesting urgent meetings”.

Funding has been secured so a youth centre in Epsom can continue to operate for a second year.

Epsom & Ewell Youth Hub supports people aged 16 to 24, who are unemployed and in receipt of Universal Credit. 

More than 200 people have been given access to training, apprenticeships and jobs since it launched last year.   

Epsom and Ewell Borough Council has not said how much money has been made available for the hub to continue.

Defence giant B-A-E Systems says it’s on track to meet guidance for the year after seeing stronger sales.

The company, which has bases in New Malden and Farnborough, says it’s because of Russia's war in Ukraine. 

As a result, many of the countries it operates in have increased defence funding or are planning to. 

New orders include a £4.2 billion contract announced yesterday for it to build five ships for the Royal Navy.

A head of a group which represents civil servants is claiming several current government ministers have bullied staff

The FDA union wants the Prime Minister to change the way the complaints system works.

Recently Esher and Walton MP Dominic Raab's denied allegations about his behaviour and Sir Gavin Williamson resigned from Rishi Sunak's top team following claims against him.

Dave Penman, head of the union, says members are reluctant to raise issues.

A development specifically aimed at “boomers” is coming to Fulham

Riverstone works to create expensive accommodation for wealthy older people. 

The Evening Standard reports they’ve received £1bn from investment banking firm Goldman Sachs for the project near Wandsworth Bridge. 

It’s also hoping to build near King’s Road in Chelsea by 2027.

The head of a union says the Prime Minister needs to address a "toxic work culture" in Whitehall

The FDA represents civil servants, and its general secretary Dave Penman wants reform of the complaints system because his members have lost faith in the current process.

Rishi Sunak was recently criticised for his choices in picking his top team after appointing Sir Gavin Williamson, despite knowing he was being investigated over bullying claims.

Civil servants who worked with Esher and Walton MP Dominic Raab have told the Guardian he was "rude and aggressive".

A spokesperson for the cabinet offie says they have no record of formal complaints.

A spokesman for Mr Raab says "Dominic has high standards, works hard, and expects a lot from his team as well as himself" and he "always acts with the utmost professionalism."

Forty schools across Hounslow have now been recognised for their sustainable travel commitments

The STARS programme from TfL encourages children to walk or cycle to school and provides educational sessions on road safety. 

Councillor Lily Bath says they want all schools to take part in the scheme and reduce the dominance of cars on the roads.

Around 1,500 schools, nurseries and colleges are currently taking part in the scheme.

A 24 hour music relay marathon will take place in Roehampton on Friday

It’s being hosted by SW15 Music at its base in Toland Square. 

The charity provides free music tuition for young people and opportunities for them to perform in public. 

Musicians will start the relay at 9am and will be joined by patrons of the charity including band La Roux of Bulletproof fame.

A boy who beat cancer will get to see his family in Thailand again after he was gifted £5,000.



10-year-old Patrick McCarthy has spent three years at St George’s Hospital in Tooting receiving treatment for Leukaemia. 

86 year old Gerald Lidbury from Worthing on the south coast read about his story and felt inspired to donate the money. 

Patrick’s dad, Gerard says the family are ‘over the moon’ as they haven’t been to Thailand since before Patrick started treatment.

Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has put another seven pubs up for sale including one in Hammersmith.

The announcement comes just weeks after 32 were put up for sale nationwide. 

The pubs now facing closure include the Plough & Harrow in Hammersmith and the Thomas Leaper in Derby.

People in the early stages of their careers were more likely to be impacted during the Covid pandemic than their senior colleagues.

That’s according to a study by management experts at Kingston University’s Business School and Maynooth University in Ireland. 

The research focused on people at five career stages in 30 different countries starting in April 2020 as the pandemic struck. 

The paper concluded that under normal circumstances, the younger generations of workers need additional support from their managers. 

However, relative newcomers to the workforce did not cope as well under the pressures of remote working.

It’s believed a stray firework was responsible for a flat fire in Roehampton.

 Emergency crews were called to Highcliffe Drive on Saturday evening. 

A balcony was destroyed and part of the first and second floors were damaged. 

A number of people left the building, and there are no reports of any injuries.

They targeted security guards as they refilled cash machines, and stole £400,000 over 18 months.

Six men have been jailed for more than 100 years at Kingston Crown Court for their part in a number of armed robberies across the country.

The gang targeted betting shops and security cash vans during its two year spree; £100,000 was taken during one raid. 

While members of the gang were  in Wandsworth prison awaiting trial, they coordinated more raids using a mobile phone. 

Crime Correspondent Martin Brun says flying squad detectives had a hard job bringing them to justice.

Cristiano Ronaldo claims Manchester United have "betrayed" him , and has accused his boss of disrespect

In an explosive interview with TalkTV, the forward also said he believes he's being forced out of the club.

But it's understood Ronaldo tried to engineer a move away in the summer.

He missed yesterday's 2-1 Premier League win at Fulham; head coach Erik ten Hag says it's due to injury.

It's believed United are extremely disappointed with Ronaldo's comments, but there's not been an official statement.

A number of flights were cancelled at Heathrow this morning due to the fog.

 Airport bosses say poor visibility meant the rate at which planes could take off and land was reduced. 

British Airways cancelled 15 departures from Heathrow, which were all to domestic and short-haul destinations. 

London City Airport also cancelled flights.

The Metropolitan Police has launched its annual Christmas Tree Appeal

The scheme asks members of the public to donate, with children from low income families, in foster care, or hospital, receiving a gift. 

More than 17,000 children across London received presents last year. 

It’s being fronted by a poster drawn by seven-year-old Angelique from Pimlico, showing officers holding hands with children.

A man has died following a fire in Brentford

Two women were also taken to hospital following the blaze yesterday afternoon. 

Crews were called at around 4pm to Netley Road, and found the man on the ground floor, and pronounced him dead at the scene. 

The cause is under investigation.

A brain cancer charity in Epsom has started offering grants following its first anniversary

The Jay C Trust was formed to give emotional and financial support to sufferers of an aggressive type of brain cancer called Glioblastoma. 

Charity co-founder Naina Chauhan lost her husband Jayesh to GBM, which is the most common brain cancer in adults. 

She explains how she is committed to help others like herself.

They conceded in stoppage time for the second consecutive game.

Plans have been unveiled for a proposed development in Banstead aimed at older residents needing extra care

Surrey county council is seeking planning permission for a development which will enable older people to live independently. 

Around 50 one and two-bedroom flats would be provided on the site of the former Bentley day centre on the Horseshoe. 

As well as the Banstead site, other locations around the county are being considered.

Wandsworth residents are being offered free bags of grit and rock salt as part of the town hall’s winter preparations to tackle snow and ice.

Although Londoners have enjoyed a prolonged spell of mild weather in recent weeks, a cold snap could be just around the corner - so the council is offering borough residents up to 50 kilos of grit free-of-charge to help them clear frozen footpaths.

Residents who want to take advantage of the offer should visit the council depot in Dormay Street between 9am and midday on Saturday 19th November.

People in Wandsworth are being offered warm spaces to shelter from the cold.

 It comes after the cost-of-living crises especially with fuel bills soaring.

 Libraries, Children’s centres, community centres and spaces managed by the voluntary sector will be opening their doors to those in need.

 Apart from being a welcomed and warm place, people will be offered hot drinks, snacks and meals with also a place to shower.

Hounslow council has reopened its allotment waiting list after freezing it before the pandemic.

 There are around 1,950 plots in the borough.

The Council is now working on a project to free up, renovate and improve a further 182 for let by the end of March next year.

The authority says they are essential for the biodiversity of the borough and for ambitions to see a greener Hounslow.

Croydon Council is looking at the possibility of demolishing one of its housing estates.

The Regina Road tower blocks were built in the 1960s and suffer from “recurring repair issues” due to their age. 

Tenants and leaseholders have already taken part in a consultation about redeveloping or refurbishing the estate.

If the decision is made to demolish, then a wider consultation with “every resident” will take place.

There are calls for a “significant” package of financial support to be included if the Ultra Low Emission Zone is expanded.

 Wandsworth Council leader Simon Hogg says he’s “concerned” about the level of detail in the plans at the moment.

£61million of financial support was included when the scheme expanded to the North and South Circular roads last year. 

TfL is proposing to expand the ULEZ to cover all of Greater London with the Mayor of London saying he’ll make a decision soon.

A teenager from Long Ditton is missing


It is believed 15-year-old Ruby left her home overnight after going to bed on Friday night.

She is described as white, around 5ft 3, of slim build with long blonde hair usually worn down. She often wears Nike leggings and a jumper.

She may have travelled to London to meet someone. 

Anyone who may have seen her or can help with her whereabouts is asked to contact Surrey Police.

Spelthorne Council has reminded people in the Armed Forces Community of a grant available to help with the cost-of-living crisis.

The Royal British Legion has allocated a record level of grant distribution this year.

The Everyday Needs Grant programme is available to assist with the cost of essentials like kitchen appliances, clothes and energy costs. 

Applicants can receive up to £2,400 a year in £200 monthly instalments.

A commemorative display of silhouette soldiers has once again gone on display in Hampton Court Palace’s gardens.

The Standing With Giants art installation comprises more than 100 life-sized pieces. 

The display includes Indian soldiers that camped out at the Palace which was used as a military base during World War I.

Parades and services will be held across North Surrey to mark Remembrance Sunday

One of the biggest commemorations takes place in Staines where the public and groups in uniform will meet from 10.15 outside the Elmsleigh centre and then process through the High Street and Market place to the War Memorial for a short service and laying of wreaths just after 11 O’clock.

In Leatherhead there’s a 10.30 Service at the War Memorial on North Street. 

While in Weybridge this afternoon the Royal British legion will lay a wreath at 2.30 before a short service of remembrance at 3 o’clock in St James’ Church. 

This year Remembrance Day, the anniversary of the guns falling silent in 1918 fell on Friday 104 years after the end of the First World War.
